New research compares the use of electric and regular bikes in DC's Capital Bikeshare network.

Conclusion: E-bikes make bikeshare better.

"E-bikes enable broader dispersion across the city by connecting more distant bikeshare stations and supporting extended mobility."

@angienashville.bsky.social @quinevanssegall.bsky.social @seanforfive.bsky.social Request that from your council member. Greenways are for transportation, right?
Someone should really take a look at how much money greenways has been allocated over the past decade but has not spent.

The $50 limit on fines incentivizes higher fees. I think they fund the courts but don’t really remember.
CM Parker was talking about having to work with the state to potentially allow for the court fees to be waived if you just pay it. It’s like $30 fine and $40 court fees. Not helpful for now but I do hope we get that.

"The entire program design here was to support everybody in moving around the city," O'Connell said "If you're a pedestrian, we want your sidewalk experience to be better and complete. If you're a cyclist, we want you to have pathways to move around the city." Cars and buses also got a shout out.

I think their interpretation of the Open Meetings Act is too narrow. I think it’s meant to stop “deliberation” not discussion. I was once told I couldn’t take another commissioner on a bike ride.
I guess I really don’t understand this. Metro legal can say all they want, but if the rules say the chair can call a special meeting it doesn’t have to be recorded and it doesn’t have to have legal in the room. (It’s a good idea but not required)
But also, I sat a a vice chair for a while on a Board. Metro legal was very clear that I had zero say on calling a meeting or on what would be on the agenda. Metro legal takes a very conservative view of what members can do & IMO this leads to an unnecessary kneecapping of board members.

There is an excellent candidate nominated for election at the December council meeting. 🙋‍♂️Nothing to do with buses however.
Seems like a good thing to file into “we should pay more attention to who is being appointed to various boards and commissions”
Update - they said "No, thank you."

Sen. Shaheen: I had a meeting with some constituents last Friday. One was a small business owner who had cancer. He said, 'If I didn't have that insurance through the ACA, I would not have gotten my cancer treated, and I would be dead by now.' That's what this fight is about.

Just so we’re clear on what’s happening.

The beauty of local politics is that it is nonpartisan-we can debate issues on merits & not like we’re opposing SEC teams. Sadly, not everyone feels that way these days.
