Why is DOJ announcing it will now, belatedly, do a civil rights investigation of the Pretti murder and NOT announce that is doing the same for Renee Good or announcing it is giving the state access to the evidence in both cases. Why? Only reason I can think of is to do a whitewash

so, as I asked yesterday, why are numerous experts on fascism say we ARE in a fascist regime?

What needs to happen for you to say ...ok, NOW it's here! *THIS* is fascism?

What is the tipping point actual experts have seen, but you seem to think hasn't happened? What would you tell you students?
We are *in* a struggle with an authoritarian government. I'm tired of explaining that there are a lot of versions of repressive governments before you get to something like fascism, so feel free to call it whatever you like.
Cute, but seriously, Tom, we seem to always be asymptotically approaching fascism in your view but can never get there.

Yet we're checking off boxes at an accelerating rate. How close is close enough?

"There's air conditioning in this train car, so...not yet fascism!" - Tom, as we're all led away

auspicious date ---as if they are (and they certainly are) sneering at our decades of legal history.

i've mentioned before, folks like Thomas and Alito would lover to write an opinion stating that their Dred Scott opinion was correct at the time, and correct today.
very fun to think that there are at least four votes for "the president can unilaterally rewrite a constitutional amendment"

Todd Blanche seems like a very odd person -- unaware, clueless, and most certainly lying through this conference about the Epstein files, an "investigation" into the Pretti execution (does the Civil Rights division know?) and the Lemon case.

Zero confidence.

ICE’s job is immigration enforcement so why is it using facial recognition to surveil U.S. citizens?

Trump couldn’t get a judge to issue an arrest warrant for Don Lemon, so he had Bondi do it.

Because of fucking course he did.
And of fucking course she did.

No arrests of the ICE thugs who murdered Alex Pretti, Renee Good, or Keith Porter. No arrests of anyone in the Epstein Files. But they arrested Don Lemon because of his journalism.

ICE's decision to just leave cars abandoned in the roads is one of those dystopian things that makes you recoil in shock when you encounter it.
A legal asylum-seeker who works at Chipotle and plays music at a church in Maine went missing. His pastor searched and searched, eventually finding his abandoned car with the keys on the floor.

ICE grabbed him. No criminal record. No explanation.

We're many, many steps from that.
Mussolini's fascism was also minimized in the beginning stages. It was too late by the time the assassinations started. We're only one step away from that now.
January 29, 2026 at 9:37 PM
yes, the initial steps have already been taken -- Madelaine Albright warned us, Timothy Snyder has, M Gessen certainly has along with Ruth Ben Ghiat. We are past the time of thinking about *what* to do, or what *may* happen ---and to actually *do* something to make sure no more happens.
We're many, many steps from that.

Minnesota is grieving. But we’re resolved. The support we’ve received from across the country has energized us, and given us hope.

It’s time for the federal government to draw down their forces and let us get back to allowing freedom, opportunity, and security – for everyone.
