I’m having a great time at my internship researching wheat genetics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, but I’m REALLY looking forward to taking field mycology in the fall with my mentor.

One thing that freaks me out about Nebraska is the completely unregulated cannabis market. High-THC cannabis is illegal here, so the products are hemp (less than 0.3% THC) and “Delta-8 infused.” Even scarier, I went to 3 different stores and none of employees knew HOW their products were infused.

I was like "Well. Science is kinda crumbling. Friends/colleagues are losing their jobs or at least funding, & some are being told to cease all outside communications".

We need to see science as a social compact where it serves the larger world, not our own interests.
As a first step, scientists must communicate to the larger world much better.
