My list of discarded (but still beloved) hyperfixations is long and varied. Currently mostly into cats, cemeteries, and Star Trek.

Hey… Why the heck does almost every science-fiction show — and some non-science-fiction shows — always have an episode where cast members get kidnapped into a fight club? Why is that?
I know no one wants to hear it but outside of their very specific areas of expertise, doctors are some of the dumbest bitches on this planet. I will not say how I know this - I just know it is true from many years of experience.

Just saw three takes in a row about Star Trek: the next generation that completely missed that all of the things that were under discussion had been clearly answered in the show. Like not even subtext. Everything that they were baffled by was text.

Got the avast settlement today which was a good reminder to always opt into these settlements cause sometimes it’s a lot of money (it’s not a ton of money but compared to most settlements it’s a lot of money)

There’s no weirder experience than commenting on something someone said in agreement, and then them coming at you like you’ve insulted their mother and then eventually blocking you when you say hey I was agreeing with you, and this is what I meant.

What's happening with the Chicago Public Libraries right now is terrible. The proposed budget of the city would CUT 89 CPL positions. Importantly, 78 positions were lost LAST year. That would be 167 positions in 2 YEARS while COPS KEEP GETTING MORE MONEY. ENOUGH. SAY NO.

I finally saw the full trailer for that Hugh Jackman movie I thought was a Neil Diamond biopic and it is not. It is a biopic of a Neil Diamond impersonator and his wife who were apparently somewhat famous in the 90s?

I started the serious part of the candy making today and part of me regrets becoming a candy maker person because it’s impossible to make candy without tasting the candy for quality control, and then by the end of the day you just feel kinda oogie.

The level it which I don’t really remember the last two hunger games movies is very high. This is not a criticism - it’s just I watched the movie once in the theater and never again until now

Since Louis CK is in the news again, it's worth restating that he never gave an honest accounting of his sexual misconduct—his initial "apology" and his subsequent statements have been contradicted by the testimony of his victims, and contained elisions and gaps intended to exonerate him.

When I was growing up, everybody, no matter how well off they were, how big their house, how many vacations they went on, insisted they were middle class and apparently now everybody is middle class no matter how near eviction they are.
this reminds me of a friend who thought he was middle class so he donated his car to a charity that helps poor people and a month later, he saw his car at his neighbor's house

Honestly "Don't Engage, Just Block" has transformed my social media experience so profoundly that it's hard for me to describe. It's just so much better to be online now.
i also liked the fact that most of us who had come from the other site had the mentality of not giving "bad actors" the benefit of the doubt on here , and told all to block, not mute, an move on

My neighbor likes spinach so I gave her the sag paneer! I will not have to just compost it — I feel so much better! Put the rest of the butter chicken in the freezer for a little treats later and the rest of the pecan pie too. I will have the aloo ghobi tomorrow - yay leftovers!

My Thanksgiving tradition of Indian food and a small pecan pie has worked out very well even though I ordered the wrong paneer but I had a lot of other food so it was OK – I tried to like it but I don’t like spinach. I meant to get Matar paneer and I got sag paneer womp womp.

Trying a new candy this year and the grocery did not have blanched hazelnuts so I had to buy shelled hazelnuts, crack them, and then blanch them myself, one of the messier things I’ve ever done. Also discovered a natural source of red dye! If they turn out, I’m buying already blanched hazelnuts.

The problem with ICE is not that it's targeting people who aren't criminals. The problem with ICE is that it's an unaccountable secret deportation police. It cannot be reformed under a better president. It can be made less terrible, but the instrument of repression remains for the next tyrant.

It’s blowing my mind that schools, universities, public services would run headlong into this. We spent 15 years documenting black boxes. This is a black box in a black hole!
I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

Just waiting for my friend to bring over her friend who has a magical car battery charger to see if we can get the battery charged so I can drive it over to the late open car place and get a new battery. Or find out it’s not the battery! It’s Schrodinger‘s battery at the moment.
