ME: "The very idea of a literary prize is absurd. Elevating one writer above their peers as 'the best'? Preposterous!"

ALSO ME, walking up to your park bench and leaning down to stare directly into your eyes: "Did you see they announced the winner of the DLP Halloween Drabble contest?"

In Space No One Can Hear You Drabble… unless they’re listening to @deadlanguagespod.bsky.social that is…!

So fun to hear my entry and all the others read out for the Halloween season. Thank you for the awesome Drabble contest 👻

Excited that my story - If You Don’t Reply - will be featured on the Creepy Corner podcast in October for its spooky season! 🎃

This one’s all about childhood dares, Halloween, and those chain letters I used to hate back in the day. Did you reply to them?

I took @marklawrenceauthor.bsky.social's AI story challenge and put on my @weirdfictionquarterly.com hat to see how well the 8 entries (4 human, 4 AI) would fare in our submission vetting process.

The results surprised me.

(Don't read this before his post linked below.)

God DAMN! @amykdebellis.bsky.social bringing the heat this week with the incredible and creepy and wonderfully written "Incompleteness!" This is such a perfect start to the fall season!!

On my walk I pass underneath a tree, and hanging from the branches, about twenty feet up, is a pair of shoes. It occurs to me that they look similar to a pair of my husband’s. Even in the dim light, I...

Really psyched for next year’s “Of Beasts and Bones” anthology from @robinknabel.bsky.social after seeing this tantalising cover reveal. It looks so scary!

I know of at least one vampire hiding in this dark collection 👀 but I am most curious about what else is hiding in there

This book came out a year ago. Had a great tour, a glowing NYT review, and was on NPR. It didn’t blow up. Not a bestseller. Didn’t get optioned. Won nothing. Didn’t earn out. Now I have no contract and I’m struggling with the next one. Being a writer is an endless war of attrition. Time to write!

Fascinating to pick up this village history and find tales of demon cows, ghost watches and strange moon-gifts instead. Is The Culbin Sands by George Bain really a folk #horror novel?
