The bad news: Earlier this year, eager news stories hyped the discovery of "chemical hints of life" on another planet. But that chemical (DMS) forms naturally, without life, in the new experiments. 🧪🔭

Illegal and shameful and just how police behave in authoritarian regimes. And also wildly unpopular and not the country Americans want.
"After federal immigration officers in Charlotte saw a man taking photos of them, they chased him nearly 2 miles down a main road and made plans to “smash” into him, video played in court Thursday showed. They broke his window, charged him with a federal felony and accused him of assaulting them."

We should get serious about sanctions. Russian missiles that kill Ukrainian civilians contain parts made in the West. And this repeated mass murder of civilians by Moscow should bring total boycotts on Russian gas and oil. And the Ukrainians should get everything they need to defend themselves
16 people were killed and 49 injured after russia’s strike on Ternopil. Missiles and drones hit 2 residential buildings and damaged an industrial facility. Rescue workers are still clearing the rubble. u24.gov.ua/nafo-dark-ni...

Unprincipled and weak. The murder of journalists is perhaps the single most direct violation of the right to freedom of speech. (1/2)
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

When Trump blessed Tucker's interview with Nick Fuentes, he was acknowledging that the white nationalist constituency inside the MAGA coalition has grown too big to marginalize.

On the pod, @zackbeauchamp.bsky.social is brilliant on this and what it means for Vance:

Trump Accidentally Stabs Vance in the Back as MAGA Erupts in Civil War
As Trump’s comments about neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes create a surprising problem for JD Vance, the author of a piece on the Fuentes fiasco explains why this has ignited a civil war inside MAGA that is abou...

The reason why socialism is no longer taboo in America is that our elites have successfully rebranded it as “any attempt by the state to function beyond semi-random violence“ while trying to combat it.

The pilfering, however, is selective. On articles in Wikipedia's "controversial topics" bucket, the differences are far greater.

And that's where Grokipedia disproportionately adds low-quality sources, including Stormfront and InfoWars.

This number is completely made up. There are not 30 million undocumented immigrants. The most recent estimates are around 14 million, of which roughly 8 million people have been here for over a decade.

Vance is not a fool. He knows this. DHS produces official estimates. They don’t say 30 million.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

absolutely bizarre that the UK press is trying to make a thing out of John Thornton's China ties and his firm's bid for the Telegraph. Thornton has been doing U.S-China stuff for literal decades, a picture of him with Cai Qi isn't news or some big revelation.
