Gamer and game modder; I've put way too many hours into Paradox Interactive games. I'm online in most places with this username.
Chatbots are perfect examples of the broken clock metaphor, except that each time you look at it, the hands have moved randomly, and sometimes to impossible positions.

I joined a banking app for a referral bonus and just got the first installment. This was the last part of the email. I'll be sure to keep that energy.

Devereaux describes how we are in an in-between moment: of autocracy and fascism, not approaching, but present, not completed, but in progress.

Our challenge is to meet the moment and not shy from it, to not pretend that we can wait for someone else to meet it. Action and inaction are both choices.
I found this exchange, at ~ 55 mins in (youtu.be/m7X0t-MGnUU?...) in the Dispatch Pod telling - how it captures the different vibes I get from center and center-right friends.

In particular, Kevin Williamson's declaration, "we're not waiting for the emergency to get here, the emergency is here."

Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I looked at some comments, and it really is a lot of cut and paste, all claiming fraud and illegal voting, a vanishingly small problem here in the USA.

I added my own handcrafted comment because voting is important to me and I believe it is important to make voting easy for all eligible citizens.
You may not think this is a big deal, but the commenters who are cut & pasting in language to add burdens to millions of voters think it's a big deal.

everyone would agree that if you believe in what is right, it doesn't matter if it's controversial. i would go a step further and say: you should not even concede to the *idea* that what you believe is controversial.

trans rights is only controversial if you act like it's controversial.

Wen should direct more attention to incidents like these because Americans are more likely to respond to brutality to pets than to brutality to human beings.

When someone designs/describes their "ideal society", it often comes with the assumption that they would be at the top.

Instead, we should do so with the assumption we would be at the bottom.
When you could code silly quizzes on Facebook, it was FULL of "what would you be in medieval times?!" etc.

I made one that nearly always answered "died as a child", "died in childbirth", "lived and died as a servant"

People got SUPER mad with it.

Everyone assumes they'll be at the top of the tree
The subtext of ‘we should be more like Dubai’, beyond the obvious racism, is ‘I should have a servant’.

One of the challenges in trying to write something about Hegseth's speech at The Quantico Disgrace is you have to listen to the whole speech but it is very difficult to listen so much and not have the style of speech bleed into your writing and you *really* don't want to write like Hegseth talks.

An important lesson to learn, and one that seems less known than it should be.

Sometimes in a contest, the other side was just better or luckier or started from insurmountable advantage.
this is a lesson that is omnipresent in pop culture and yet lost on a subset of centrist pundits

You can understand a lot of human behavior by recognizing that really insecure people naturally place themselves lower in the perceived social hierarchy, which makes it much easier for their ego to become wounded by something that you would have maybe brushed off as a kid having a bad day.

I hope everyone will forgive the bluntness of my language, but it seems like bluntness is warranted: it now seems pretty clear that the president raped children or at least knew about and actively facilitated the rape of children.

I think it is time we stopped using coded language to say that.

Another "where's the AI code?" question: where's the shovelware? If AI coding is so hot, we should be seeing a flood of crappy little apps, and we aren't.

note this post is from a huge AI bro too
Where's the Shovelware? Why AI Coding Claims Don't Add Up
78% of developers claim AI makes them more productive. 14% say it's a 10x improvement. So where's the flood of new software? Turns out those productivity claims are bullshit.
