“Ninety-two percent of the targeted Medicaid recipients already work, are in school, have family caregiving responsibilities or have disabilities.” The proposed work requirements have nothing to do with waste, they are designed to cut enrollment through paperwork. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/08/o...

I know some of the folks from @alt18f.bsky.social who worked on this. Hell, some former coworkers worked on it.

Direct File is/was one of the best examples of digital modernization and this hits hard.
Sam Corcos, who entered government with DOGE earlier this year, decided to kill DirectFile after one meeting with with tax software lobbyists.

New NYT investigation reveals how Equifax plans to profit from Medicaid work requirements.

The dominance and price hiking uncovered would be alarming in any industry, but it's unconscionable when families' healthcare is at risk and tax payers are footing the bill.

TRUMP is CHOOSING TO CANCEL FOOD ASSISTANCE. There are literally emergency dollars available to keep SNAP funded.

People are mad about the East Wing, and you should be, but also... metaphorical bulldozers are doing the same thing to the federal government, on a massive scale

Unfortunately, metaphorical bulldozers are hard to photograph

Be mad about the East Wing

Be 100X as mad about everything you can't see
And for the first time since January, I felt the full weight of what we’ve lost in just nine months. I sat at my desk and cried, proud of what we accomplished, and so damn heartbroken by how much of it has been broken. Because in the end, it’s the people who lose the most.

Join Federal workers and tell Congress to pass nothing less than a fighting CR; a funding bill that not only keeps the lights on, but that also includes statutory protections to reign in executive lawlessness.

We condemn the Supreme Court’s decision to allow federal agents to profile people based on how we look, the language we speak, and the type of work we do. This is a dangerous attack on workers’ freedoms in Los Angeles and across the country, and our solidarity will not waver!

If you’re wondering how much of what RFK Jr said yesterday about vaccines was true—almost none of it was.

@FullerLab_UW is one of the most accomplished vaccinologists out there and her article is required reading to separate truth from falsehoods.

This administration is afraid of traumatized 8 year old amputees

Let that sink in

Fear is at the core of their power. If we go along with calling an 8 year old amputee a threat, they can call anyone a threat, and that's the point.
These are the kids whose medical treatment in the US Loomer objects to:
"Leyan is a 14-year-old who was burned and injured by shrapnel in an explosion at her school. Ghazal, 6, was also hurt in an explosion. Another child, 8-year-old Anas, was hurt in an explosion that killed his entire family."
A new shameful low. Even for Trump and MAGA. Everything about this story reveals the sickness that has taken over America.

I am in downtown Boston all the time, I spent a bunch of time in NYC last year, I travelled to DC for work routinely over the last three years.

We're doing fine.

Not perfect, of course, but what place is?

If you haven't experienced these places recently: come visit! See for yourself.
Trump Takeover of DC Police Legally Invalid

On its face, the Executive Order says the stated reason is "the precipitous rise in violent crime" in DC.

DOJ's own statements are that DC violent crime has dropped to 30 year low (and dropped more since).

We knew in our guts while hiding that the shooter was targeting us. This violence is driven by anti-vaccine propaganda. And the rot start at the top.

Just this week RFK Jr canceled all mRNA vaccine research while lying about the technologies safety and effectiveness.
“The shooter was either sick or believed he was sick, and blamed his illness on COVID vaccine — which is why he was targeting the CDC.”

Standing up for the smallest of minorities is important because when you accept the premise that one group are expendable because small or ‘insignificant’, you have accepted the idea of the expendability of human life in general, and the enemy will use your acquiescence to pick off yet more.

They make sure we have clean water.

They protect us from financial fraud.

They provide healthcare to our communities.

They make our government actually work for people.

Do not forget this.

I deleted several posts about a Times story because they violated Times social media standards.
