"That's just regular old living."

I might nerd out about music, books, movies, maybe a little paleontology; nothing to get excited about.
Currently having the type of #lastfourwatched that makes me question whether or not I actually even like watching movies all that much.

What I need is the cinematic equivalent of a juice cleanse or something.

Top 5 movie genres:

- Sad astronauts with family trauma on a mission to save humanity
- microbudget single-location Twilight Zone homage
- putting a heist team together with high-concept sci-fi twist
- WTF did I just watch?
- the monster is a metaphor but it’s also cool as hell on face value
What are your top 5 movie genres? Mine are:

- Roaring rampage of revenge
- Reluctantly, I must resume my life of violence
- On reflection, the risk assessment on our giant monster facility and/or attraction could have been more thorough
- Girl survives
- Crime but make it quirky

I have never gone from knowing nothing about a film to adding it to my @letterboxd.social watchlist so fast. This looks like a blast.

RIP Drew Struzan - the best to ever do it.

Lots of his iconic poster art is going around today, so I’m sharing a deeper cut - the poster art that he created as a prop for The Mist, depicting a theoretical Dark Tower film.

This is wild. I really didn’t expect this to ever happen, but it could be amazing. Missing out on seeing them live with Neil is one of my biggest concert regrets.
Next summer Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson will take Rush on the road for the first time in 11 years. Marking 50+ years of the band, the tour will celebrate the legacy of their late drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, and it’s happening with his family’s blessing.
Rush Announce Their First Tour Since Neil Peart’s Death
Rush’s Neil Peart, one of the great figures in prog-rock history, passed away in 2020, losing a battle to brain cancer at the age of 67. Peart wasn’t just the drummer for the Canadian institution; he ...

This is honestly some of my least favorite type of nerd griping

"why would that scientist not properly secure a container"

"why is she eating in the lab"

bro do you want to watch a TV show where the monsters escapes or do you want to be an OSHA inspector 😅
Really surprised at the number of folks I've seen griping about this show "not being realistic" and the way characters "make dumb decisions" as if that's not just part of how horror tends to work. Can't tell if this is people being overly reverent of the og film or a media literacy thing, but jeeze

Apologize for retweeting the same article twice but - and I say this with no hint of irony - this is a pretext to the single largest, easily litigated lawsuit in human history. This is an egregious violation of IP law, law protected quite literally & specifically by the Constitution. Total insanity.

If you say 'heteronormative' or 'unhoused person' or 'food insecurity' you're basically talking gibberish and nobody can understand you but if you say you can see inflammation in children at the airport and that vaccines lower IQ or that germs are a myth you get to fire all the scientists.

As someone who has listened to more Staind than is socially acceptable to admit, I can believe that Lewis’s grasp of lyrical subtext is pretty nonexistent. Ironically a lot of Staind songs get at broadly similar personal issues but with all the subtlety of a brick and none of the social context.

Alien: Earth is pretty great so far. Loving the new directions and themes in the storytelling while totally nailing the aesthetic of the classic movies. Some killer needle drops too.
