In fifth grade my teachers told me to never ever use Wikipedia cus anyone could contribute that but I was aloud to use literally any other website as a source in a paper. Been thinking about that a lot recently.

For years I thought Nextdoor was a fake app. I had only seen screenshots and I genuinely thought it was some performance art piece or an online suburb role-play forum.
A couple of weeks ago there was some sort of fire dept activity that prompted me to check out

I'm not saying AI isn't the future but it is notable that the biggest promoters are weird, cultish trolls and zealots who sound EXACTLY like NFT evangelists from a few years ago. Again I'm not saying it's snake oil, I'm saying they have lots of snake oil salesmen in their ranks.

one antidote for the “maybe all men” feeling is to watch old lapidarist guys on youtube. they’re all named like dave or chad and they are the most wholesome creatures on earth. right now they’re slicing through a sweet malawi agate with a table saw and gasping at “how pretty you are”
