1965 was the last time the Fed Govt called up the National Guard WITHOUT Governor authorization

The reason

They were called up to protect the protestors from fucking Gov Wallace and the KKK local police at Selma, Alabama

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Hayden two years ago. She’s an incredible leader and this angers me to my core.
•••••PURGE ALERT•••••

Trump gleefully fired Dr. Carla Hayden, the first woman and the first Black American to serve as the librarian of Congress.

Hayden was appointed in 2016 by President Barack Obama.

It seems the Trump regime has identified Dr. Hayden as “anti-Trump” and “woke.”

The President just fired our extraordinary Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. As Chair of Senate Rules I worked closely w/her. She was dedicated to the Library and highly respected by Democratic AND Republican senators. This is an outrage and a big loss.

One thing that has been clarifying in this centennial history course I taught this semester is that this type of interpretation of the founding emerged over time, most notably embraced and amplified by Douglass, and was itself historically contingent. We make meaning and it changes over time.

Take ACTION to stop Trump’s steal of our money, our resources, our safety nets. No more talking. Less focus on getting electeds to “do something.” WE must take local actions to stop Trump. Watch this video with Democrat messaging guru Anat Shenker-Osirio #Voices4Victory

I imagine if Thomas Paine knew how Donald Trump used the phrase “Common Sense” as repeatedly and inaccurately as he does, he’d implode.

A big misconception about Greenland is that since it’s labeled a Danish colony, its residents are just a bunch of white dudes named Kristian—which is extremely harmful and inaccurate.

The population is 85% Indigenous! It belongs to the Kalaallit people, not to Denmark and CERTAINLY not to the U.S.

Americans got rag tag groups together to overthrow the monarch’s rule partly because of taxes on newspapers and playing cards. But when hard fought rights are on the line, we shrug lol

What's the deal with vertical farming?

*Can* potentially work for a small group of crops: mostly greens and possibly some fruits.

But far too expensive for cereals or other staple crops.

Vertical farming: a local solution for greens, but not feeding the world any time soon
While it has lots of benefits, the economics just don't work.

Probably the number one reason I love social media is sometimes people just say things perfectly
when you stop reading "believe women" as "women never lie" and see it as "one of the foundational myths of patriarchy is that women can never be trusted" it makes a lot more sense.

An AAM Museums and Trust study from 2021 found museums rank as the number one trusted source for information.

Yet, a lot of US museums don’t take on long-term, significant educational efforts on serious issues like climate change and disinformation because (surprise) high end donors don’t want it.

"The widespread cessation of arable farming" seems ... extremely bad.
This has massive implications for the UK and Europe. One study found that after a[n AMOC] tipping point we could see the 'widespread cessation of arable farming' www.nature.com/articles/s43...

For me this just means we need an even faster food system transition that would be better for everyone.

Trump's entire Cabinet misrepresents climate change
I analyzed the public statements of each nominee. It was awful. (Though Matt Gaetz was surprising?)

Today, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez proposed a new task for to look at electoral reforms which could break up the two party system in Congress, expand the number of House districts, and move the House to a form of proportional representation.

It's a very, very good idea.
Blue Dogs Propose New Task Force to Look at ‘Winner-Take-All’ Election System
The bipartisan task force would investigate structural reforms like multimember districts and adding more House members in an effort to address growing polarization and distrust of Congress.
