Loving today's news that the mysterious "fedora man" outside the Louvre heist was actually a 15-year-old museum visitor who dresses like a 1940s French detective all the time, just because. apnews.com/article/louv...

Fifteen-year-old Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux has become an internet sensation after an Associated Press photo captured him outside the Louvre on the day of a crown jewels heist.

156 years ago #onthisday, Top the wombat died. He was the pet of the poet and artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti who, upon Top's passing, created this self-portrait in mourning. More on Rossetti and co’s curious but longstanding fixation with the #wombat here: publicdomainreview.org/essay/o...

I keep seeing adverts for the new Tom Daley knitting show 'Game of Wool' and I realise this must be some sort of pun but my meno-brain just can't figure it out. It's been weeks now, somebody help.

Re-reading my old Harry Potter fanfics from 2007-2012 on Fanfiction.net. Forgot I'd written half of them, but they still hold up well, I think. Some lovely recent reviews too, but even if I hadn't moved on to other fandoms (Cabin Pressure, tennis) HP would be dead to me now.

3 things I enjoyed this week:

1/3 - The Traidar podcast:
podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...

Matthew Keeley and guest do a deep dive into each episode of The Traitors (they also cover other Anglophone versions). Some good insights into the show, plus MK has a lovely mellifluous Scottish accent.

Simon's in a thing!
This man is @slepkane.bsky.social. You will have heard him in The Monster Hunters. You will be hearing him in The Divide. He does a good line in difficult bosses. The Divide starts on Friday. #audiodrama #podcast #spy

My friend has gone viral for an excellently silly reason.
The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles to Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and it’s rather wonderful. A few of lines could plausibly have been written by Jarvis.

It's MERINGUE WEEK on #GBBO which is unfortunate because I don't like meringue.

On the other hand I really enjoy hearing the word MERINGUE repeated MERINGUE over and MERINGUE over again until it MERINGUE ceases to MERINGUE have any MERINGUE meaning.

3 things I enjoyed this week 1/3:

A film - 'See How They Run' on C4:

Saoirse Ronan (using her real Irish accent!) turns out to have excellent comedy chops and Sam Rockwell can do a very good British accent.

Watching 'Eva Longoria: Searching For Spain'.

It's your standard celebrity foodie travelogue, except for the jaw-dropping intro in which she presents her expertise as:

'Eleven generations ago one of my ancestors left Spain for the New World and a new life. Four hundred years later, I'm back.'

Have belatedly discovered the excellent 'A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs' podcast. Chronological, hour-long (sometimes multi-episode!) deep dives into great songs from rock history.

It started in October 2018 and still hasn't reached the 1970s.

A lovely thread for those of us who enjoy research, and old things.
This could be a long and rambling thread. Be patient with me.

I bought an old mahogany bureau on Ebay. I didn't really want a bureau as we're meant to be downsizing, but it was a beautiful piece & obviously very old. Google lens suggests the brass chased handles are Queen Anne. That's 1702-1714 😯

Unfortunate choice of image accompanying this advice column on 'masculine inadequacy' - Lautrec's painting being famously of two women in bed. I assume the picture researcher (I was one for 19 years) didn't bother reading the caption.

My boyfriend sees sex as a competition he is losing. How can I change his mind?
Masculine adequacy is a curse, writes advice columnist Eleanor Gordon-Smith. Beyond assuring him he meets the standard, could you help him to see the standard doesn’t matter?

My favourite thing about this picture of Mondo Duplantis breaking yet another pole vault world record is how absolutely THRILLED the official is. We'd all be that excited to be so close to greatness, let's face it.

I have once again been distracted from my plans by live sport. In this case, Mondo Duplantis is doing his miraculous thing in the pole vault final.

And, as if that wasn't enough, vaulting the highest height in history to break yet another world record. 🇸🇪 🇸🇪 🇸🇪
