Not-for-profit branch of Coillte “dedicated to restoration, regeneration of nature across Ireland” shut down.

“This will enable Coillte to significantly increase its delivery of #climate & nature restoration projects”.

Just how stupid do they think we are?

For experienced postdoctoral researchers with a strong track record interested in pursuing an independent research project in my group - focussing on mapping Ireland’s energy transition and delivering carbon budgets - this is a good opportunity to apply for funding from SEAI. Please do get in touch.
The call is now open for applications to an #SEAI ENERGISE Fellowship Programme. This programme provides opportunities for postdoctoral or experienced researchers to apply for research fellowship awards.

1. As we face a series of great crises, every parent is confronted with the question of how much we tell our children. We don’t want to lie to them, but nor do we want to terrify them. Of course, there is no single answer. It depends in part on the child. But this thread suggests one approach. 🧵

This is utter nonsense from Martin, Ireland already has BY FAR the largest share of data centres in the EU, they’re putting huge pressure on our national grid & harming our renewables transition.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said the "demonisation of data centres" needs to end if Ireland is to keep up in the tech and artificial intelligence sector

The notion that Trump's "I'm king" tweet is "just trolling" or "a joke" presents an opportunity to recreate my just-joking thread (porting it over from the Bad Place):

These companies include fossil fuel giants like Chevron, Shell, and BP, who have been raking in record profits.

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved.

We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

Thank you! So important to repeat the point that constructed density isn't a linear ecological good: eventually, it becomes counterproductive to just climb into the sky. More-evidence based discussions of density please! It's one of the most important technologies we have, got to get it right.
