Guy from NoVa living in the Mitten. Every week is infrastructure for me, but more likely to post about sports.
@hooverstreetrag.org Listening to MSU's radio guy when I was out on an errand and when introducing Indiana, first thing he goes to is "They make their free throws"

One of the first things I remember reading at maybe age 4 or 5 was a collection of Jeff MacNelly's "Shoe", which as far as I can remember were mostly diner jokes and 70s newsroom tropes.
why did so many millennials read so many newspaper comics? easily 60 percent of my reading diet in elementary/middle school was collected editions of calvin and hobbes, farside, dilbert, peanuts, doonesbury (!), foxtrot (?!?) and i know im not alone. historically unique phenomenon
rather than talk about Scott Adams I want to talk about something weirder (me). Who else was really into Dilbert when you were 12. Who else was like, boy, I can't wait to work a cubicle job

I'm not saying "Motivating Manning" is good or even an entertaining ad after seeing it in rotation, but it's still a better bit than some of the professional motivational speakers I've had to sit through.

That match had the trashiest packet (complementary) because it also had the NFL passer rating question that started with "Pencil and paper.. will be totally useless".
(My all-time favorite buzz was at 1999 NAQT ICT at Michigan when we were playing Stanford and I was able to correctly get "Mr. Sparkle" on "He shatters a cow.")

Home river...born by the James, currently live near the Red Cedar, but spiritually and hometown could be the Rappahannock or the Potomac, so here's Great Falls:

Dana Carvey "49 ERS!", which may or may not have had the first part included based on if you were watching the Critics Choice Special on HBO or during the afternoon on Comedy Central.

Holy Roller rule maybe saving the Bears, or merely delaying the knockout blow?

Sorry Panthers, but sincerely, thanks for playing, kinda want to see them in next year's playoffs after they've had another year to gel.

"As Channel # concludes its broadcasting day, a word from Pastor SoandSo (sometimes Priest or Rabbi depending on your market), and then our National Anthem".
Without revealing your actual age,what's something you remember that if you told a younger person they wouldn't understand?

Good purchase by whomever picked this up, I haven't seen an artistic expression like this since the UConn sad/ennui husky.
It is Friday and the store is open until 3:30pm! Today we have this good boy with the cone of shame for $15.

Yeah, in theory, if I was posting more, this is what I'd enjoy, but I'm not selling a newsletter yet, I don't work in media, so it's mostly recreational posting because I've lost my patience with all the other platforms.
ACC sports (traditional footprint, Maryland to the Carolinas), random DMV region pop culture from the 80s and 90s, and as always, Every Week is Infrastructure Week.
u heard sharon, everyone post about their esoteric interests right fucking now. for the good of the community, we need to be hyperfixationmaxxing.

i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts

Let's see if that comes back to bite the Steelers later.

And now the ceremonial invocation of the San Diego Fleet and the LA Wildcats, it's a Josh Johnson start.

They brought out the silver end zones with 80's "Eagles" in the good kelly green in Philly, which looks pretty slick when paired with the classic green uniforms. Go Birds (because I'm ok if Washington gets a better draft position)

Big man touchdown in Houston!

So does this mean the mayor of Tampa owes the mayor of Charlotte a case of Cafe du Monde coffee and beingnets?
January 4, 2026 at 9:06 PM
I would say the 49ers just ran some schoolyard play, but our schoolyard games didn't have a lot of gadget plays and whatnot, it was either huck it deep, a running play or two, and West Coast offense controlled short passes.

Greene County, little bit beyond C'Ville:

Some things never change, and by that, I mean, ACC hoops refs are becoming the main characters in Raleigh.

If you're a Nebraska fan, that was a Ball Don't Lie moment.
January 3, 2026 at 4:03 AM
Also, kind of like bringing out Johnny Carson's voice for the Nebraska ad.

Huskers and Sparty have been worth staying up for so far. Yes, I know, it's a Friday night, but reflexively 9:00 tipoff makes it an iffy proposition

Wait, do I kinda miss Surge? Probably not, except that it made for a good Slurpee flavor.
It's 2026.

Things many American school kids probably don't know how to do:

* Cover the flexbone
* Use one of those urinal troughs
* Run a 2 minute offense out of the Wing T
* Identify all the members of the Big 8
* Lobby BCS Pollsters
* Enjoy a can of Surge
* Take a long 2 instead of a stepback 3
