Pinned
Who's hiring at the moment? I'm a software engineer looking for a new job!

C++ and Python are my best languages, with some working knowledge of Go, and learning Rust in my free time!

Looking to get a raspberry pi.

What's something I can do with it that's productive for someone who builds software for a living?

What are brand/software names that are riffs on prior brands/softwares, and became more known/prolific than their predecessors?

For example, PostgreSQL vs Ingres, C versus B which came from BCPL standing for Bootstrapped Cambridge Programming Language.

If you're offended by an objective factual statement, that's specifically a you problem not anybody else's.

I feel like office work is like different games of cards. Being an IC is like blackjack, but leading is like poker.

In blackjack, I just have to focus on myself and the end goal. For poker, I have to know the end goal, and know other people (and their skill set) as well.

I was asked by my dept's executive leadership to eval an internal tool to see if it was ok for teams I supported, just because one of our customers liked it.

The only issue? While it was developed for 10 years already by very experienced devs, it was the biggest piece of hot garbage I've ever seen.
The way a story about a software's utility is more important than its actual utility.

Unit tests and regression tests are the greatest!

It might just be the culture of the folks I work with, or just the general lack of funding, but it seems like hardly anyone I work with gives a damn about writing proper unit/regression tests, allowing bugs to constantly resurface.

If anyone is hiring or knows someone who's hiring, I have experience in general automation, data processing, and binary data packing/unpacking, but I am open to pivoting into cybersecurity, DevOps, and/or web development.
On the job hunt for a software role!

I'm mainly focused on desktop and embedded applications, using C/C++, Python, Go, and command line scripting. I'm gaining familiarity with Rust and C#, and have some very basics of HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
