"This promise of an AI future, is really just a collective anxiety that wealthy people have about how well they're gonna be able to control us in the future."

Incredible words.

When I was in undergrad, my professor for the only arts business course available to me had the following advice for the class: "Marry rich."

He went on to explain that "rich" could simply mean standard W-2 employment with access to health insurance, but I can't say that made it feel any less grim.
If you’re a working artist talking to other creatives I’m begging you to not hide this. I have a parter who makes more and I don’t hide that and try to be as open as I can especially one on one. It’s cruel to not be honest with your fellow artist and give them any kind of false hope or fear
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.

When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"

The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

I’ve been politely informed that I don’t post enough photos of my dog — let the record show that Ash is a certified Sweetie Pie and/or Cutie Patootie, we will not be taking questions at this time. Thank you for your time and attention in this matter.

Each year I challenge myself to try a slightly different approach, with this year’s poster representing my first attempt at using dark colored paper stock with bright opaque inks — I’m especially excited by the way the illustration’s edges get vignetted by the dark blue paper!
