the two traditional genders:
game boy and game gear(l)

but do not forget the nonbinary precursor to these genders:
game & watch
I thought this was required for the safety of the flight, just like turning off our game boys and game gears at take-off and landing

Enjoying the fact that the clipart world map I'm using in my Indigenous Studies course has omitted the British Isles (along with most other islands of their size or smaller)

So all of the info on Wikipedia is shared under a Creative Commons Share Alike license. Does this mean that MSFT, Meta and Amazon will be making their models freely available?
I wonder how Wikipedia editors and contributors feel about this.

As LSA 2026 takes place in my hometown, I can't help but to think of the last LSA meeting I attended, 2020, also in New Orleans

It feels like so much has changed since then but at the same time so much has remained the same

I deleted my 14000+ tweets today. But while I was over there checking that the script worked, I saw linguists lamenting about how the main alternatives to linguistics twitter are too political and not linguistic enough. If you don't want politics maybe stay off the internet?

One of the coolest things a student ever wrote after taking my Indigenous Studies intro course was, "if settler colonization is a structure, not an event, then reconciliation needs to be a structure." And she was absolutely correct.

For as long as I can remember I've had this very particular joy come to me anytime I have the opportunity to apply a bandage or other type of first aid to myself (and possibly others?). Does anyone else feel this?

Two years ago today, I finalized my dissertation and submitted it to the Vault.

For the rest of my life, I'll know that on the shortest day and longest night of the year (in the northern hemisphere), I marked the end of one arduous chapter of my life and the beginning of a new one.

I've been willing to still provide feedback on student work even though I have proof of AI-usage to generate parts of that work, violating multiple statements in the course outline/syllabus, with my reasoning being that I would still like them to learn and improve.

If anyone's curious, it's a clip of Dave Grohl during an interview addressing Canadians that the band pronounces it nirv [ɑ] na, not nirv [æ] na. But when pressed on it he says "I don't give a shit what they call it"
The phonetics is good, the sociolinguistics is better tbh
