Oxford English Dictionary has a bit more on it, giving historical spelling variants of spartle, spartel, spattle, and spatyl(l), getting closer to spatula as you go back in time!
I also found on OED that the roseate spoonbill was once referred to as the rose-coloured spatula.

Turn off the robots while you rethink your whole protocol.
Like every principle of ethics is at issue here, but it's certainly not impossible to do the work to address them. People do it all the time.

And I'm not complaining that I have to do it. Language background can be a traumatic topic for some. So it is important that I do consider what I would need to do if my questions do happen to touch on someone's trauma.
