Just unfathomable bravery. And he has kids. Hero is too small a word.
Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, has been identified as the man who disarmed one of the Sydney attackers.

Ahmed was shot by the second shooter, who was firing from a bridge. He suffered 2 gunshot wounds and is undergoing surgery.

Great point. Reminds me of when a Pixar film is nom'd for best picture. Takes all the wind out of the animation category. Jason's fix (more design-based instead of genre-based categories) is also a good one. CO:E33 was the best overall, but its individual components were not universally superior.
I think these awards felt especially boring because categories like Best RPG and Best Indie each honor overall quality among a subset rather than a specific craft. If a game is the best of the year, and it’s an RPG, obviously it is also the best RPG. Needs an overhaul to avoid pointless repetition

Oh What Fun is great. First new Christmas movie in years that I can't wait to rewatch. Mike Showalter rules. Zac Oyama cameo is so neat. Great cast, lovely sentiment. Loved it.

As a Canadian:
1. What in the actual fuck is going on down there?
2. Leave our national icons out of this.
A new post from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth just a couple hours after President Trump said he wouldn’t have wanted a second strike on alleged narco boats and that Hegseth said he didn’t order second strikes.

Everyone else has moved up one spot on the living playwright list, because the greatest has passed on.
When the playwright Tom Stoppard died, “he left behind a theatre changed by his blistering intellect and blazing success, the heat and light that made the rest of our English-language garden grow,” Helen Shaw writes.

Tom Stoppard’s Radical Invitation
The playwright offered a kind of on-ramp to the literary canon, a way into a life of unabashed, unstoppable thinking.

To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

Democrats at every level of power could simply repeat "he must resign" over and over and over again. It's what the GOP would do if the situation were reversed. Further erode his power by pushing him to lash out more.
