Looking back on the murder of the brilliant and astonishing Ken Saro-Wiwa, 30 years on. He was executed for seeking to stop the despoilation of the Niger Delta by Shell. His murder prefigured much of what we have seen since. He remains a guiding light to us.

Folks might not know a lot of people are getting *very* upset that the materials they request are not available in the libraries/archives they're requesting from.

We're getting lots here at the Library of Virginia: requests of documents likely surfaced by large language models that *do not exist*.

People think elected MPs serve them—they're wrong

Despite holding 94 seats, Labor MPs
😟Fear gambling lobby groups
😟Fear causing dissent within @australianlabor.bsky.social
😟Fear consequences of speaking up

Lotta FEAR

Same problem seems to afflict @leanaustralia.bsky.social Environment Champions
“After winning a thumping majority, the prime minister is more dominant in his party room than ever and his backbenchers fear speaking out on an issue he's shown little passion for.”

What a depressing shitshow.
'Broad, unspoken consensus': silent Labor MPs want action on gambling
Andrew Wilkie has asked the PM to allow a free vote on banning gambling advertising and it appears many Labor MPs would support it.

Hurricane Melissa, which could bring up to one metre of rain to Jamaica, is moving towards the Caribbean island at a worryingly slow pace.
Climate change is making tropical storms more frequent and severe, including through heavier rainfall and slower-moving storms.

The USA 🇺🇸 has the most important junction in its legal, civil and social history. Can the ancient writ of Habeas Corpus be bent by POTUS? Can your citizens with disproportionate force be kidnapped, falsely imprisoned without process in order to support Federal Government Policy. There is one answer

The USA are doom-scrolling to the Fourth Reich. Get off your device and stop participating in an economy that is taking away your civil rights.

At $820k/year surely he can focus on doing one job well?

Ludicrous. The NACC is supposed to be independent but Brereton keeps working for the ADF while overseeing potential corruption investigations about it?
The Kathryn Campbell conflict wasn't enough to demonstrate how costly and damaging this is? That mistake already cost the NACC $1.2m to rectify.

If profits shape the energy transition we need to understand the biggest profit event this century: the 2022 oil and gas price spike.

Very happy our paper is now out in Energy Research & Social Science. Thread by lead-author @gregorsemieniuk.bsky.social 👇
🚨NEW PAPER🚨
We all know the 2022 energy price shock fueled the cost of living crisis. It also caused a profit bonanza for the very rich. We show the US reaped the largest profits ($377bn) of any country. 50% went to the richest 1%, only 1% to the bottom 50%. A🧵 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

The average Australian drives around 12,000km per year and spends around $2,500 on petrol. This equates to around $0.20/km. On average, an EV travelling 12,000km each year would cost around $500 to charge ($0.04/km).
