Peter Viereck's reflections on the McCarthy and post-McCarthy 50's GOP are often surprisingly prescient; here perhaps more humorously than elsewhere

However bad you think things are on Twitter right now, they are much, much worse

I have at various times worried that a "face"-turn for Trump would be incredibly easy to pull off, but have concluded that he simply doesn't have the disposition or the discipline to pull it off (i.e. he's a truly awful person with zero grasp of how awful he is).

Not sure if that's what this is.
Greene: "I will praise Nancy Pelosi. She had an incredible career for her party. I served under her speakership in my first term in Congress and I'm very impressed at her ability to get things done. I wish we could get things done for our party like Nancy Pelosi was able to deliver for her party."

was wondering how long it would take for this to emerge
since Helen Andrews is in the news again, how about everybody enjoy the best TV cspan ever did, where she gets relentlessly demolished as a truly awful person by her *libertarian* ex-boyfriend

Davis is not the only one here--most of the major right-wing accounts are saying the same thing.

I have an active account on Twitter for sports content. Literally any time you venture off the "FOLLOWING" tab, you are instantly bombarded with truly insane right-wing content.
Davis has always been a reactionary buffoon, but it’s really striking how much X has radicalized people like him. He just straight up calls for Hasan to be denaturalized and deported because he doesn’t like Hassan’s speech.

He's always been like this. He was denouncing open borders as a Koch brothers plot back in 2015.

Bernie Sucks
No, Bernie, sending squads of goosestepping fascists to conduct mass raids and terrify entire communities is not "better." This is a godawful take and you should feel bad.

lumpenintellectuals who insist that Nazi tattoos are evidence of working-class authenticity give us a pretty good sense of what they think of working-class people

As we learned from Trump: what makes someone "authentic working class" is how awful they are
No I do not support all working class people, some of those assholes are very dumb

After the FBI denied "children were zip-tied or hit with rubber bullets" in a raid in Wilder, Idaho, the FBI said no "young" children were.

The updated statement came after KIVI-TV sent FBI photo reportedly showing 14-year-old U.S. citizen in zip ties.

apropos of another day of awful: when did we start referring to the White House as "The People's House"?

seems weird because it really isn't that, even conceptually

I usually get eye-rolled for saying things like this, but what my more tech-inclined colleagues are rarely able to articulate to me *clearly* is this: the Great Digitization of Higher Ed--and by this I mean even email--is now essentially complete, but...what has been gained?
How many classes today were canceled because a whole suite of EdTech services are built atop AWS?

You know what platform never crashes?

bluesky usually jumps to worst-case scenarios, so maybe i just haven't seen any discussion of this, but--

if trump is allowed to pay troops/WIC through some combination of private donors and a tariff-backed slush fund, then what reason does congress have to ever come back into session?

It’s a res publica, not a democracy, say people who support the wealthy demagogue ruling without the senate or popular assembly and suggesting paying the army from private funds.
Trump: "I had a very wealthy person who called -- a donor, a great gentleman -- and he said, 'if there's any money necessary, shortfall, for the paying of the troops, then I will pay it.' Meaning he will pay it. How about that?"
