We have so many Chinese students - vulnerable kids in a strange country with v different rules. Having taught such students what strikes me is how big an opportunity this is for soft diplomacy.
They are so anxious about critiquing government and being watched. We can show there are options.

Hard agree. We invite these young people here. It's embarrassing to be so parochial about 'foreigners'.
Our housing issues are about tax-exemptions that are grossly unfair and exclusionary. It's about protecting the haves against the have nots.

International students are perhaps the most unfairly attacked demographic in all of Australia. We invite them here. The reason they come is to get an education. Most are incredibly nice people who benefit our country in all sorts of ways. They massively cross-subsidise domestic students.

Laws passed last year made what this student did a criminal offence but there is no action on platforms used to make this content - some apps and websites are even set up to specifically make stuff like this. Why isn’t government attacking this on all fronts?
