I teach how to make peace with your body when you have reason to hate it. Culture worker. Feminist former Mormon. Rabblerouser. Working towards a world centered on care. Known elsewhere as ReeseDixon.
My son is autistic and holiday food makes no sense to him. He eats the food he likes best every day, and if we're trying to celebrate, why wouldn't he eat the food he likes best? So he eats mac & cheese, and I only make the food I want.
Actually in the spirit of this conversation, what’s a decision you made about a past Thanksgiving holiday that really paid off? I think people often feel trapped by their lives. Sharing our experiences can liberate us from that sense of claustrophobia.
On the most recent episode of VIBE CHECK, we answer listener questions about Thanksgiving, most importantly “do you go celebrate with the family members you don’t even like?”

A grateful post seems so small in the vastness of all @sfdirewolf.bsky.social did for the world, but Alice showed the power of social media to spark change, so I hope the love through these channels are emanating toward her into the ether. Thank you for everything. www.instagram.com/p/DREMDNBjnq...

Born disabled, Patty was told as a child that they would not live past 16 years old. This prediction was pessimistic, and wrong. Patty grew up to live a full life, and changed disability history. Now, as disabled people face brutal cuts to Medicaid, we must draw on Berne’s insight.

As disabled people face brutal cuts to Medicaid, we must draw on Berne’s insight to link with other fights for freedom.

Start your activism at home by reclaiming your own human dignity. Refuse to believe your worth is in your work! Quit feeling shame over every body need! Learn to see your body - and everyone else - as a living part of nature, and not as an asset! Get out from under billionaire propaganda!

ADAPT has been leading actions for decades. Happy to see them continuing to fight; angry that they have to.

I'm raising an autistic boy with extremely high support needs. If anybody ACTUALLY cared about the plight of my family they would fund respite services beyond minimum wage, not redo science that didn't agree with the outcome they wanted.
Treating autism as shameful or blaming environmental factors is a step back to the days when scientists blamed unloving mothers or vaccines. It focuses on blame rather than supports. Focusing on the causes takes away money from lifespan issues and supports and services.

I am 100% here to fight down to the line for trans folks, every time. But I am begging you guys to see disabled people as people, are also under attack and worth fighting for. We are not your collateral damage until they get to the "real rights." We are people. Both/and.

@jblainefoster.bsky.social If I wanted to say "California water is a problem because the guy in charge was Mormon and thought Jesus would have come back by now" who is the guy I'm talking about? I know I've read this argument, but do you know who do I look up to get the reference right?
