Terrific storytelling here about a player whose impact resonated on - and especially off - the field. Bravo @lalbanese.bsky.social. ⚾️ ❤️

A curious thing happened when Brandon Nimmo got traded. Fans - a lot of fans - came out with personal stories of him giving them their time. Here are a few:

Chiefs RG Trey Smith is one of the best people in the NFL, and his raw, emotional response remembering the promises he made to his late mother is a prime example.

If you’ve lost your mom, you’ve probably been exactly where Trey was today.

With President Trump demanding that the Washington Commanders go back to their previous nickname in exchange for the team building a new stadium in Washington, DC, it’s worth noting that the JFK administration threatened the team’s stadium lease in 1962 unless they integrated.

When @bradtakei.bsky.social and I first got together, we never imagined we’d one day celebrate Pride openly, let alone post about it on the internet. But here we are, joy and all. Happy Pride, everyone! Let’s keep showing up, speaking out, and marching forward (glitter optional, but encouraged). 🌈✨

Folks (part 2): I’m joining The Boston Globe as the Red Sox beat writer, beginning in early June. It’s a special job in a special city, so I’m pumped to be back in New England!
Folks: This is my last week-plus covering the Mets and with Newsday. It’s been a hell of an eventful seven-plus years — more like 23 in Mets years? — around a team that always keeps it interesting. And I’m going to miss it and you all quite a bit!

Love watching the Edmonton Oilers play hockey, but if they don’t get a true No. 1 goalie, then Connor McDavid will join Dan Marino, Ted Williams, Charles Barkley and other sports greats who never won a championship.
