Luke Kuechly talked to reporters back home Tuesday, and there was a lot to cover. @kassidyhill.bsky.social was all over it.

JJ Jansen, 40, just signed for another year with the Panthers.

Where does that put him among oldest players in franchise history, or NFL history?

And can you do "Six Degrees of JJ Jansen" and get all the way back to George Blanda?

The answers are within.

This movie was a miracle.

Considering I've been wearing shorts for two weeks, it was time. The Christmas tree (Epiphany Tree?) went to the curb today.

Well done, my good and faithful servant.

Legendary newspaper editor Bernie White, upon learning about a prostate cancer diagnosis and recommended radiation treatment:

"We should start right away. How's next Monday?"

"To burn a hole in my ass? Sounds good. Then I still have the weekend."

You want to talk about Daytona 500 strategy?

I watched one lap, saw some person named Reddick win the race, a bunch of cars get good and tore up, and didn't invest all day in it.

I'm basically Junior Johnson.

I was doing just fine until Mike Tirico said the 1980 Olympics were 46 years ago.

That’s a lie, Mike Tirico, because that would mean I’m oh hell never mind.

Nothing says love like the look on my wife's face when NBC throws it to their slalom skiing analyst, and I reply:

"I like the way you work it, Ted Ligety; I got to bag it up."

I can't believe I'm about to watch Ilia Malinin again.

Then again, I covered Jake Delhomme in the 2008 playoffs.

He truly "picked a bad day to have a bad day."

Skeleton is the most metal event in either Olympics.

This lady who is apparently merely great at it has an eyeball on the helmet which is the first thing down the track.

Never mind Snoop Dogg, we need Glenn Danzig on this sport.

You know what would be really impressive?

Finger skates.

Flip upside down, do a twizzler or whatever, and then bounce back onto your feet.

Ask The Old Guy: Trending up heading into 2026
The Panthers are in one of the rare slow weeks in the NFL calendar, which is a good time to pause and reflect on the (many) things they have to be grateful for. And people are (mostly) in a good mood.

Dudes watch the Olympics and think they can do these things.

Did some skiing in college, generally with assistance of PEDs (bourbon, mostly). There's no way in hell I'd get on the lift for that downhill. The only way I'd attempt the Super-G is if Team USA wore brown tights.

I would absolutely die.

It's skis and guns. It's always been the sport of chaos.

It's just now bringing the mess.

Also, a French skier with a gun who steals a credit card is the setup for an unreleased John Prine song.
From @theathletic.com: One biathlete admitted infidelity (and his ex-girlfriend responded). Another won gold months after stealing her teammate's credit card.

It’s been quite a week for Olympic biathlon, and it could just be getting started. nyti.ms/4bJVQrE

Pretty soon, we're going to have to stop using the Ron Burgundy teleprompter voice when we say the Hornets are, ... good.

Talking with @natathescribe.bsky.social, who points out how similar these two guys are in so many ways.

When I took this picture in the summer, no one would have given you a nickel for the chance they'd both make the playoffs this year.

And yet.

Our position-by-position look at the Panthers roster moves onto a spot where decisions will be made by teams and players.

Running backs are always going to be a priority here.

Panthers offseason positional review: Running backs
Rico Dowdle is heading into free agency, after his midseason heater sent him to a second straight 1,000-yard season. But the position will always be a priority as long as Dave Canales is coaching.
