Eve is a forty-something woman who once hoped to be the chosen one, even though the elders insisted it had to be a boy. She is careworn, kind, and a fierce momma tiger who risks banishment to protect her daughter, Jenna. In this picture she is dressed in muted natural colours with a hooded cloak, and carrying a longbow. Her face is streaked with soot because she has been mourning. Jenna is Eve's youngest daughter. She is musical and has made her own flute from a bone. She wears slightly more colourful clothes than her mother but is limited by the dye technology of her world. Jenna has charisma in spades. She has left her town to help Jethro who is this year's Chosen One. As a result she is banished from the town because she has broken the prophecy. Conker, the mare who carries the Chosen One on his quest. She's just a horse, no special powers, but she is an essential member of the party. First sketch of Conker. The artist redrew her following feedback from friends. I'm not much good as an art critic although I do prefer the new version.

A reminder that the original Hallowe'en jack o' lanterns date back to 18th century Ireland if not earlier, were based on a shady boozy blacksmith called Stingy Jack who cheated the devil & was trapped between 2 worlds, were carved from turnips and looked like this:

I spend a great deal of my time explaining to authors that they won't make any money from their books. I wish I could charge for that time because I don't generally make any money from the books either. 😕
