Finished The Round House & my emotions are all over the place. What an ending! Such memorable characters & the story came together brilliantly. I feel like this would be a rewarding one to re-read just to catch all the layered nuance.

I thought the opening scene with Joe & his father fighting against intrusive plants that threaten the foundation and safety of their home was a brilliant hint and set up for what the rest of the story would become. (1/2)

The first few chapters reminded me a little of "To Kill a Mockingbird", only more explicit and grim. An early scene, in the first chapter I think, really set the stage for the overall tone and political commentary of the story.

It had me anticipating beautiful nature imagery throughout the book, hoping for humor of the narrator’s age range that would make me giggle (and lighten the mood), and yearning for a story that I could connect with as someone who has been through bad stuff.

Check, check, and check!

How did the opening chapters shape your expectations for what kind of story this would be?

I truly felt this book was perfect. The depth of characters, the flow of narration, the emotions it illicited in me, and the importance of the story that was told all had me listening to the audiobook with rapt attention. It’s a book I know I’ll read again!

Finally starting round house. Got through the first two chapters. Dang it doesn't give you much time to get settled. Loving the mix of humor and dark scenes. I already learned something: what a dandelion fork is.

The writing feels very different from other books by her that I've read. Wasn't expecting 1st person POV & for the story to be so focused on 1 character/plot line. Cool to see her versatility as a writer! Also learning a lot about the complexity of tribal law under colonization.

I'm no longer including posts with 🦋📚 in this feed. It was catching a lot of unrelated posts, so I'm moving forward with the just the more explicit #blueskybookclub tag, and any post that mentions this account!

It's superb. I don't tend to struggle to compartmentalize while reading upsetting books, but for whatever reason this one got to me, and even though I've finished it's still looming in my thoughts. I felt the lack of quotation marks added to the almost suffocating atmosphere as well (not sure why).
