There’s a Juniper under there! She’s kneading away getting cozy and has finally entered Blanket Land after a hesitant week. I love snuggling with her! 🐈‍⬛

I love showing Juniper my embroidery progress. She is always nearby when I am working on my embroidery and often peeks at my work!

I enjoyed an hour of sweet pea leaf-making with satin stitch today!

My eyes are very tired so today was a short session, with tea!

The other option is that I am a cat!

😭😭😭😭😭😭

I was brushing my hair and found this whisker had come out of my hair! It must have fallen out when we were having one of our“I’m home!” snuggley hugs earlier today as Juniper kneaded my bicep with her little feet and I buried my face in her fur.

I’m gonna cry!!

I planned out when Ross and I will be cooking all the food next week for our Thanksgiving meal. I love hosting for Thanksgiving and sharing so many delicious foods with loved ones.

The only leftovers we are likely to have will be pie, mashed potatoes and maybe green bean casserole.

Lookie what I found at the used bookstore today!

Ross and I are both intrigued by the Dyatlov Pass tragedy.

I was hoping to find a lighthearted read for the holidays. These two seem perfect!

I’ve heard bird by bird is PHENOMENAL writing reading!

Used bookstore trips and rain are two of my favorite things.

A #bookworm in her natural habitat- the used bookstore on a rainy day.

Panda Express treat lunch was huuuuge. They piled on so much food. 😂

Today’s vestibular PT was so different than yesterday. Yesterday, I flopped about like a marionette walking heel-to-toe. Today, I was straight as an arrow.

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want a bookshelf with a rolling ladder?

When I stopped ignoring her & began to listen to her & talk with her compassionately, there was shift in my recovery.

This week’s a good example of the benefit of talking with her, reassuring her, & listening to her.

Writing helps me! Here. My journal. A poem.

The best line from Making Shapely fiction so far!

“Readers believe in the scene because they believe in the pudding.”

This book is an excellent tool for writers! I personally struggle a bit with the jolting style, but I’m breaking it up into unit-like lessons. It helps.

I ran around in the first snow of winter at Hazlehead Park yesterday. History of Hazlehead Park The park is one of the oldest historic sites in Aberdeen, once part of the great hunting forests of Stocket, and was gifted to the city by Robert the Bruce in 1314. I only had a short time there, due to a dental appointment, but I made the most of it! There were lovely big trees with the odd autumn leaf still attached. And big, big shadows. Trees, trees, trees. I so love walking in my wilder countryside woods that I forget how lovely the wooded areas of the city are.

I love my little bits of Christmas decor I brought out to blend with my Thanksgiving decor!

Cozy time with my kitty before the final appointment for the week. Then, Panda Express treat lunch and an afternoon of relaxation, hopefully some embroidery, and definitely REST!

I’m really enjoying Making Shapely Fiction. Yet, I’m going to choose to ignore this recommendation as one of my pieces I’m working on (19,000 words so far) has this kind of thing as the spooky element. It’s interesting that THAT was one of my favorite scary stories growing up.

There is no trigger or reaction that can't be made worse by beating the sh*t out of ourselves w/ our self talk or letting our mental focus go on autopilot.

Triggers & symptoms suck. We don't have to amplify the suckage by letting our bullies & abusers call the shots in our head.

Here's to everyone reading who is doing the hardest, most honest work of your life in trauma recovery, literally battling to stay alive day to day-- & who is being told by some idiot in your life to quit "playing the victim" & improve your "mindset."

I see you.

We don't reflexively jump through hoops to people please for the hell of it. We're not making a "choice" we can easily undo. We've been conditioned to do it-- & unraveling that conditioning is going to take time, self-compassion, & realism.

Easy does it. Grace over guilt.

We don't have to love our behavior when we're getting jerked around by trauma responses-- but we don't have to hate ourselves when it's happening, either. We're more than our emotional or behavioral reflexes. We can accept & care for ourselves, even as we work to change patterns.

No one who actually understands trauma recovery will tell you it's easy or obvious-- or that any one person or source, no matter how credentialed or experienced, will have all your answers in one place.

Your recovery path will be as individual as your pain. Seek widely & humbly.

Every single trauma recovery strategy that works is a combination of self-talk, mental focus, & physical movement. Checking in w/ those three tools is where to start when trying to define the nuts & bolts of your realistic trauma recovery.

Remember your identity today. Not the "identity" they want you to take on, rooted in who you were or who they want you to be-- the identity YOU choose, that affirms YOUR values & interests & deeply felt sense of who you are.

Make time to remember & inhabit YOUR True Self today.

Creating-- art, music, food, whatever-- can be such a powerful trauma recovery tool because it requires us to step outside of the roles & expectations of others.

It requires us to go off autopilot & connect w/ our True Self, which is what gets devalued & buried by trauma.
