I’ve been trying to put words to what I’ve been feeling today between the insane Admirals testimony and the reports of the boat bombing video and SCOTUS and Pete Hegseth’s sociopathic homoeroticized sadism murders.

The word is sickened. I am sickened. It is sickening. This nation is so fcking sick.

Last week, I spoke to SCOTUS scholar @leahlitman.bsky.social in an interview about how the Texas map case posed a test for the Roberts court.

It'd show "immense hypocrisy" to uphold Texas maps, but void Louisiana's, she said.

🚨🚨🚨This collapses the one 'argument' Hegseth had against it being a war crime:

"The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat .. DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE RADIO OR OTHER COMMUNICATIONS DEVICES, the top military official overseeing the strike told lawmakers."

Wow, Adm. Holsey didn't leave of his own accord, Hegseth pushed him out. What looked like the SOCOM head resigning rather than do war crimes now looks like SecDef canning him to facilitate war crimes.

Congress should have him testify, and would've already if war-crime-sympathetic GOP didn't run it.

I think that's an important point.
Any thoughts on the take (Phillip Bump) that because there was no public declaration on war until after the boat bombings became public, and this was the first such bombing, the victims could not possibly have understood they were in a war zone.

Dear corporate media: here is your simple explainer for the IG report on Signalgate.

The information was properly classified. It was copied from a classified written document. It was sent over a non-classified system, namely Signal. Hegseth took no steps to declassify any of it.

End of article.

This is ridiculous. They're clinging to a shipwreck and thus "continuing the mission?"
The USG has a new explanation on why they (now admittedly) intentionally killed 2 shipwrecked men. It does not pass the laws-of-war smell test

Worse for Hegseth, NYT: "Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved contingency plans for what to do if an initial strike left survivors."

Bottom line:

ALL of the strikes are extrajudicial killings under international law, murder under domestic law.

That's true of a first strike on any of these boats, & also of Sept 2 strike killing shipwrecked survivors (which would *also* be illegal in an armed conflict, but the US isn't in one).

Administration generally refuses to:

1) Send executive branch lawyers to these briefings who could explain the legal basis for the maritime strikes.

2) Refuses to allow lawmakers to bring legal counsel to see the OLC memo.

Thus keeping Congress in the dark.
