Oddly, @jonrauch.bsky.social does not praise any of the people who came to this rather obvious realization before he did. Nor does he take time to ponder what *else* he might learn from those people. In fact, the piece drips with the same old condescension & hostility toward those people! Amazing.
Yes, It’s Fascism
Until recently, I thought it a term best avoided. But now, the resemblances are too many and too strong to deny.

Must have been years since I listened to these pieces by Franck, a composer I don’t care for very much. Bought this CD mainly for Faure, but find myself rather enjoying these Franck pieces as well. #classicalmusic

I was a sensitive kid. I loved cats. I had OCD, undiagnosed.

When I was 9, a fraternity brother tortured a cat to death in my hometown. The details even now are beyond imagination. archive.is/xdmUL

I was traumatized for years from reading the news story.

The torturer? Now the head of the NRA.

In these troubling times, it must be very reassuring for Minnesotans to know that they will always be supported in their freedom of expression by Pinker, Haidt, Harris, McWhorter, Weiss, FIRE, et al.

This is literally what I've been writing and podcasting about for years. I was planning to do an essay on this, but here's a 🧵.

The main reason is psychology. Due to personal, family, and cultural histories, some people are inherently scared of the world.
Fight and help win a world war.

Establish a global order that cements your national power for 80 years.

Blow it all up.

The mail brought in some good stuff today. HIP Haydn, oldschool Beethoven. And finally getting around to Faure recordings by Thyssens-Valentin. #classicalmusic

Erich von Däniken, popularizer of the idea that non-white ancient people were incapable of building monuments, died yesterday, prompting many people to say "that guy was still alive?!?". In honor of his passing, I think @ifbookspod.bsky.social should do a special episode on Chariots of the Gods.

My personal vote for best ending in classical music? Martinu - Piano Concerto No.4, “Incantations”. #classicalmusic
The other concertos aren’t too shabby either, but this takes the cake.

Authoritarians use performative lying to mark who is for, and more importantly, against their regimes.

The point isn’t determining truth. The point is creating an ingroup whose loyalty is assured through ritually denying reality and an easily recognizable outgroup that refuses the delusion.
The shooting is shocking enough but the government's response is off the charts when you consider that this incident is forensically documented on video.

The next Democratic president needs to be prepared to do this immediately in re: every single one of Trump's executive orders since January 20, 2025.
I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.

He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.
