So utterly sick of politicians saying the most unfathomably cruel things because they want to be treated like a celebrity with controversial opinions and not a public servant, which is what they are elected to be.

We really don’t talk enough about age appropriateness of religious beliefs.
Children simply don’t process things like adults do, so no matter how true you think something is, that doesn’t mean a kid can handle it.
“No child should grow up thinking they’re going to hell.”
Religious fear can cause lasting harm from a young age.
Did you grow up with fear-based beliefs?
How are you healing? 💬

That’s right. Historically that’s almost always been the method. Don’t underestimate how well it works — even passive opponents of the regime second guess themselves: “well, the dictator’s a liar, but what if *this* emergency is real?” It’s the better-safe-than-sorry coup.
I haven't seen it emphasized enough, but it's important to take a step back from Trump's ongoing seizure of autocratic power to see it's all emergency politics. All of it.

The Constitution is being suspended bit by bit the same way autocrats have always eliminated them: declaring fake emergencies.

So long as we’re worrying about desecrating the flag, I expect prosecution for putting the flag on cups to drink beer from, deconstructing it into a shirt, and letting it get tattered to shreds whilst hanging it from one’s vehicle.
Any First Amendment enjoyers out there?

And I guess no one told him what you're supposed to do to retire a flag:

"The American Legion passed a resolution...in 1937. The approved method of disposing of unserviceable flags has long been that they be destroyed by burning." (on defense.gov website)
Donald Trump issues order defying Supreme Court precedent
The president signed a number of executive orders Monday, including one that goes against a court ruling from 1989.

It really is helpful to hear about folks from other times who did the work to make the world better, not because they knew how it would turn out but because they knew it is right. It helps to look around history and see others being brave, being against something bad and for something better. Thanks
I debated writing this. It can feel tempting, upon encountering yet another instance of this administration’s racism, to let it be. How many ways can you say the same thing over and over again? And yet we have to write it down, if for nothing else, so those who come after us know we were against it.

A ‘card shark’ was originally a ‘card sharp.’

Since ‘shark’ was already associated with a crafty person who takes advantage of others, the ‘sharp’ transitioned to ‘shark.’

Reading Six of Crows : Kaz Brekker is Silco from #Arcane, but younger.

(Which is different from saying a younger Silco, bc young Silco is a bit idealist and Kaz skipped that part.)

Everything is bad. I hate that this is happening. I don't want to be in this fight. But it is happening. And there's good worth fighting for. So I'll fight & it will be good again

Anyone want to talk about The Darkling? He is maybe the best antagonist I’ve read.
He starts out with a noble cause, but his views are warped by his addiction to his own power, and complicated by loneliness.
Simultaneously seductive, ruthless, desperate, and sweet.

This. Absolutely this.

It’s subsidiary is that if you are “caring” about every cause by commenting on social media but not substantively doing something about at least one with your time, effort, or money, than you are feeling, but it’s not leading you to care for others.
This should be obvious, but I’m going to say it anyway because the internet has a way of making obvious things less obvious:

You cannot substantively care about every worthy cause out there.

If your response is “Maybe YOU can’t, but I can!” you are confusing feeling with actually caring.
