It seems that several albums, which I had purchased with real IRL money, have completely vanished from my bandcamp collection. I shouldn't be surprised that it can happen, but it's weird coming from bandcamp.

I'm in the habit of immediately downloading local copies anyway so there's no loss for me

The first time I ever saw a cow in real life (strange thing to say) was well after reading this tumblr post and I immediately turned into pointing Leonardo DiCaprio meme.

This is that cow.

(Not a cow but close enough)

Your video player should let you choose your channel output which might fix it in the interim (screenshot is VLC).

Symptoms describe surround sound being output to a stereo device. Voice usually goes to the center channel which headphones don't (physically) have, so they almost disappear. I'd try turning off anything related to surround sound and work my way back up until it breaks (or just leave it off).

Don't expect anything to change in the near-term. But they are a for-profit company with 30+ employees. I wouldn't be surprised if monetization creeps in eventually. The only question is what parts.

For now, at least, none of the existing ones will be affected.

After 19 years, the creator of Anki is stepping down from leadership of the project (but will still be around). Sad times, but nothing lasts forever. It'll be taken over by a company called "AnkiHub" which may be more familiar to the medical Anki community than the language learning one
Anki's Growing Up
Hi all, Anki’s 19th birthday was about 4 months ago. It would have been a good time to pause and reflect on what Anki has become, and how it will grow in the future. But I ended up letting the moment...

Finally, I wrote a quick python script that counts how many times we traverse a spike along the line at that pixel height.

In conclusion, this bird chirps at 84 CPM (chirps per minute).

That is all I have to say on the subject. 以上です。

In Kolourpaint, I cropped the waveform and turned it into black and white with the dropper tool (didn't really need to do this since it was already two colors, but too late).

I drew a line that intersected each chirp spike and made a note of the pixel height (40) before removing the line.

I imported the recording into Audacity and found the cleanest, most consistent 1 minute chunk of chirps and clipped it out.

Then, I reduced the recording to mono channel, stretched it to fit on one screen and took a screenshot of the waveform.

There's been a bird outside my house these past few days chirping incessantly at a fairly high frequency. It's an aptly named Noisy Miner. It chirps for hours at a time with an occasional break.

I went out and recorded a few minutes of it. Here is an excerpt.

N1 was a failure. Can't act surprised about this one, I knew it was a disaster while doing it. I did considerably worse than my first attempt though so that's demoralizing.

The grind continues.

My 8 digit passcode is 7 digits in the eventbrite ticket and I can't log in with it. I thought I could just guess 10 digits on each end until it worked but they locked me out.

I feel like I, personally, get disproportionately trolled by computers more than the average person.

Oh yeah I'm doing this for all of them.

They really held back for game 2 (game 1 screenshots started well after the halfway point). But then they pulled out a character named Goldshower. You know, like...the plant.

Ordered some stuff online and qualified for free shipping, so sure, why wouldn't I choose that.

They sent it to me from *another state*. There is a shop 8 minutes away. Store pickup was an option. Cool.

Indeed. I've been at this for a very long time with entire years where all I did was just review vocab. You only regress if you stop.

Have you been to Dubbo? It's literally next to Trangie. You can go to Wudinna with a bus. You can probably drive to Noona. It's a Tarcoola kind of day. You should go to Ceduna, it's hot right now. Go to Ceduna.

Is 50 hours of reading per month enough to pass the N1
January 25, 2026 at 3:52 AM
That's what I like tell myself at least. At any rate, I'm not too fussed about the slow reading (it's difficult text with a difficult subject matter). I'm just relieved there's some measurable improvement.

The mining will continue until they stop making words.
