Emigrated to Japan in 2001 and lived just outside Nagoya since 2002. Studied Japanese at university. Fatherhood, photography, hiking, cycling, books, music. www.seanbreslin.jp
No idea if the idea makes any sense, but based on a Derek Sivers book I’ve just finished, I wrote a very short post about capturing a photo as an endpoint.

Hell Yeah or No: What If Taking the Photo Was Enough?
What if taking the photo was enough? No pressure to post, no need to share. Just observe. A thought on photography beyond social media.

I like going back and looking at what I was photographing at the same time of year in past years. This was Nagoya in November, 2018.

Just got the first roll of film back from my Zeiss Ikonta 6x9. Boring images (it was a test), and framing issues, but overall very happy. The lens and shutter seem immaculate.

Used grandfather's old Kodak Cresta with Lomo Colour '92. The camera was fine (shot Kodak before with good results), but this film suffered from 'fat roll' - doesn't roll tight enough, causing light leaks. A waste of money :-( Sticking to Ilford or Kodak from now on.

The Nakasendō – Ena to Nakatsugawa

Four years already? Was that how long it had been since I'd walked this section of the Kisoji/Nakasendō? (It was December 19th, 2021). Pandemic times. Not another soul in sight back then.

Hazama Fudoson – Seki

We used to live just down the road in Inuyama, which meant I often cycled up and over the Kagamigahara Alps on routine bike rides, right past Hazama Fudouson (迫間不動尊) in Seki, Gifu prefecture.

My grandfather owned a Kodak Brownie Cresta, and although it was a fairly inexpensive camera, he kept it in immaculate condition.

Every time I'm in the UK visiting family, I try to get to a Villa game to reminisce about my childhood, when I used to stand in the Holte End with my dad most Saturday afternoons.

While back, I had the chance to go and see Aston Villa v Newcastle (a post on that to follow), to take a trip to northern Wales with my daughter, mother, and nephew, and also to see my local football team, Redditch United, play local rivals Bromsgrove Sporting on a glorious bank holiday.

Went to Aston Villa v Newcastle yesterday. Crap game, but there were tributes to Ozzie Osbourne, Diego Jota and his brother before the game.

My brother also paid for a memorial plaque next to Villa Park for my dad. #UTV #astonvillafc #OzzyOsbourne
