The 702,250 residents of DC pay the highest federal taxes, fight in wars, and die for their country.

It is long past time for us to have the same representation that Americans in every other state have.

Thank you Congresswoman Norton for continuing to lead our fight for #DCStatehood.

Heartbreaking. A chat service does not make up for a dedicated librarian. Sigh.
NASA is closing its Libraries, including at HQ and multiple centers, "with at least 5 librarians losing their positions:"

And this is why librarians with masters degrees are so poorly paid. Sorry I need food and shelter, I guess? 🤷🏻‍♀️
It only requires money if the people doing it demand money. And if they demand money they’re not scientists or educators, at least not ones that should be involved with the project I’m speaking of.

“At the heart of the problem is a lack of money, infrastructure and expertise to archive digital resources.”

I think there’s plenty of expertise—just no money to pay the experts a living wage.
My work features prominently in a Nature editorial today. Great to see digital preservation being taken seriously.

"Millions of research articles are absent from major digital archives. This worrying finding, [...] was laid bare in a study by Martin Eve" www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Act now to stop millions of research papers from disappearing
Digital preservation is not keeping up with the growth of scholarly knowledge. Recognizing its causes is the first step to securing records everywhere for future generations.

HI HELLO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY.

I had to recycle a lot of new books at the public library because they were falling apart after 1-3 checkouts.
Have you purchased a weirdly low-quality paperback book lately? This may be why. https://buff.ly/3YQi2cK
