I spent 10 years trying to be an independent scholar while working outside of academia. Papers/presentations I produced: zero. Not enough energy and definitely not enough money. Happy to be back in academia at last, even as a staff librarian.

Librarians are working on the kind of work you’re talking about. So is it a tragedy that we’re underfunded or are we unworthy of our profession because we need money to live? Make up your mind.

Thank you! They actually rescheduled surgery because the surgeon had a family emergency. So it’s a couple more weeks to wait.
