this is Mars’ moon Phobos eclipsing the sun. this is what passes for a total solar eclipse there. second-rate planet. just sad

Tech's current model seems to be

1) overpromise to get financing
2) lend to each other
3) burn through unreal amounts of money
4) ruin existing products
5) embed it into as many sectors as possible
6) count on a bailout

In the 1600s, Prince Rupert of the Rhine, a nephew of Charles I of England, won a bet about whether a tunnel can be cut through a cube to allow another cube of equal size to pass through. Today, mathematicians study this “Rupert property” in many shapes. www.quantamagazine.org/first-shape-...

Gallego: "It's murder. It's very simple. If this president feels they are doing something illegally, then he should be using the Coast Guard. If this is an act of war, then you use our military and then you come and talk to us first. But this is murder ... it's disgusting."

How about internet-connected air fryers?
For a few hours, a service outage at AWS triggered malfunctions across the internet.

But it perhaps was felt most by those sleeping on these smart beds that rudely awoke them with upright inclines, unbearable warmth, flashing lights or alarms.
Smart beds flipped out during the AWS outage, and so did their sleepy owners
Some Eight Sleep mattress users had a rude awakening after the Amazon Web Services outage, with reports of beds stuck upright and haywire temperatures.

We are not yet in a dictatorship. Trump and his claque are making a run at it. But if you want to keep a democracy, you have to actually remember that you still have one.
This thread illustrates imo why screaming that America is now a fascist dystopia doesn't really work because the terminally online people greatly underestimate how hard it is for the median voter who isn't plugged in 24/7 to wrap their heads around the idea that we are now in a dictatorship
Okay. Let me try this another way, and see if that works.

I was a boy with relatives in Greece during the time of the Colonels, a pretty scary military junta. Some would say it was fascist: Militarism, anti-communism, nostalgia, etc.

But no.
