“I want everything but I don’t want to pay anything for it.” basically sums up the views of the right & the wealthy.
Billionaires are by definition extractive of far more of the society around them than they give to it. The same society they benefit from, which allows them the life they enjoy.
Oops! Helicopter for Vonn. Think y’all need to have a rethink. It’s not an inspiring story of comeback, but rather one of hubris and selfishness.

£99987 and counting: graduates trapped by student loans.

Govt froze repayment threshold. By 2030, be at minimum wage.

At the margin grads pay 20% inc tax + 8%NIC +9% repayment. Insane.

Loan increases, if not repaid.

Grads can't buy home, start family/business.

Abolish Uni fees. Write-off debt.

One by one, Europeans mentioned in the Epstein files who still hold political office are beginning to resign or are being forced out of office.

Meanwhile, ruled by an administration almost entirely made up of Epstein associates, the US carries on as if nothing really happened.

1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.”
This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵

And for those people who want to vote for #ReformUK Inc., that is who Farage admires (along with Putin). Why would anybody want to vote for a man or his party who does so however much you think #UK politics is bust? And if that’s you in #Scotland, wtaf is wrong with you??

Mandelson was a minister in 🇬🇧 Gov and he was advising a convicted 🇺🇸 US sex offender that a fellow 🇬🇧 cabinet minister, now dead Alistair Darling, should be “mildly threatened” not to tax banker’s bonuses.

Unthinkable that he can be a law maker.
Extraordinary: Mandelson told Epstein that JP Morgan should "threaten" then cabinet colleague and chancellor Alistair Darling over tax on bankers' bonuses. In plain language: "Minister conspired with US bank against own government".
More brilliant FT reporting

To those saying, "but the Greens will split the vote":
1. Things have changed.
2. It's not the Green's fault that Starmer has the Merdas Touch (turns everything to shit)
3. When the Greens offer the only inspiring option, perhaps we should see the Labour candidate as splitting the vote.

The Labour party is famously "a moral crusade or it is nothing". On aid, immigration and trade they're going for the latter option, with betrayals of principle both repugnant and pointless. 1/n

With student loans the UK government has become a loanshark. Trapping poorly paid graduates in decades of “debt” that they can realistically never repay. If it were a commercial deal the govt would be trying to regulate the company out of business.
