New to the party, and finding friends I haven’t seen on social media since 2022! Seems like a decent party to wander into.
For new folks: I’m a historian of architecture and planning, writing a book about architect J. Max Bond Jr. I also sometimes post about the Cincinnati Reds and records. 🤷🏻♂️

This is super cool, and a building known to anyone who has spent time in Harvard Square (picture follows in thread). Incidentally, Paul Rudolph used to have an office across the street, at 26 Church Street.

Do it for those of us without representation!
Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.
If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

This actually isn't difficult: the Democratic Party should have an Affordability, Opposing Authoritarianism, and Protecting Democracy vision. And the candidates who pursue that will look different in different regions of the country, as would be expected.

Finally as the excellent Paul here points out, they all talked a lot about affordability! bsky.app/profile/ange...
Also Spanberger’s victory speech sure was about affordability including many of the same issues advocated by Mamdani, including with Virginia’s centrality in data center/energy conversation!

As much as I'm thrilled by the youthful surge for Mamdani, I've also been impressed by the large number of older adults who are also excited about him. Doesn't fit the media's narrative but there are a lot of older folks who are inspired by young people's enthusiasm.

They’re rich jerks too, they just happened to find their gravy train on the blue side. Schumer would probably announce his impending move to Florida if he could.
I had thought most of my naive idealism had been stomped out of me by now, but it’s amazing to me that this level of public animosity could be directed by Democratic leadership toward a sweet and personable young candidate of their own party seemingly exclusively because of his background.
Q: It's election day in NYC. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?
Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."

I love election day every year, even when it's an off year and I have nothing to vote for. There's always optimism in seeing the results come in.

Well, the Reds didn't win the World Series, but I did get to see my preferred team lose after being ahead and then squandering several innings worth of men in scoring position with one or no outs.

If you're from the Cincinnati area, as I am, you know this, the new 1st, is a totally demonic congressional district. It has to look like backwards Massachusetts for there to be enough exurban/rural voters to outweigh a skinny cut through the city.

emerging reports about possibly imminent US military attack on venezuela. there can be no doubt about it, certainly not in the coverage: such an attack would be an act of aggression, lacking any basis in international law. we'll get sophistic arguments about self-defense but none will be legit.

Honestly at some point you have to start doing psyops with these people:
Have Obama announce that he will seek a third term tomorrow. Then watch all the con law “scholars” and Fix News MELT DOWN trying to explain why he can’t but Trump can. (It’s like Newsom taking over his social media persona)

Q: One theory on how you might try to serve a 3rd term is that you could run at the vice president
TRUMP: Yeah, I'd be allowed to do that. But I would rule that out because it's too cute.

I didn't mean this to sound as Borscht Belt Comedian as it does, but it's funnier if read in that voice.

An entire economy of modern and contemporary art has been funded by conservative donors like the Lauders, Ken Griffin, Steve Cohen, Steve Wynn and more.
Stephen Miller: "The scandal is how Democrats & the left scarred the landscape of our country w/grotesque so-called modern art that celebrates ugliness ... very importantly, President Trump is making sure it's in the neo-classical design around which our nation's architecture has long been directed"
