New to the party, and finding friends I haven’t seen on social media since 2022! Seems like a decent party to wander into.

For new folks: I’m a historian of architecture and planning, writing a book about architect J. Max Bond Jr. I also sometimes post about the Cincinnati Reds and records. 🤷🏻‍♂️
A Jon Ossoff/Jacob Frey ticket has amazing Parent Trap potential.
Mark my words: If he wins re-election in anything more than a squeaker, his name is going to start being talked about for 2028. The field is far from set. As I've said before, Obama didn't even start appearing in 2008 polls until fall 2006
SEN. OSSOFF: “.. why are roving gangs of masked men — who look like they couldn’t pass the Army physical exam — dressed up like pretend Delta Force operators, on our streets, demanding papers, dragging people from their cars, and shooting people to death?”

Q: Pope Leo cited Matthew 25:35 to critique Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda. How would you respond to Pope Leo in scripture?

MIKE JOHNSON: Sovereign borders are biblical and right and just. It's not because we hate the people on the outside. It's because we love the people on the inside.

Like his Garden of Earthly Delights, this is absurd on its face. There is no way that what he is proposing here is a $200m project. So he is either going to spend five times that or he is talking out of his you know what. The REACH, constructed nearly a decade ago, was a $250m project.
Q: Do you plan on tearing the Kennedy Center down and how much will all of the renovations cost?

TRUMP: Probably around $200 million. I'm not ripping it down. I'll be using the steel. So we're using the structure. We're using some of the marble.

Artists have a tool that they have been wielding to great effect: refusal. Others could learn that lesson!
CNN is reporting the real reason Trump is closing the Kennedy Centre for two years is not for renovation: “the Kennedy Center does not have a 2026/2027 season. There would not have been any programming to announce."

This has a very Cold War Civil Rights feel. Int'l audiences taking the US to task for civil rights and human rights violations as American officials pretend that we are a beacon of freedom and democracy. Btwn this and potential World Cup boycotts it's encouraging to see.

WHO COULD HAVE GUESSED
Breaking News: The Border Patrol leader Greg Bovino mocked the Jewish faith of the U.S. attorney in Minnesota during a call with lawyers, according to several people with knowledge of the conversation.

It’s really striking how when you see all these emails etc. you realize that it’s not just Epstein who was an insecure con man but they basically all are. One idea made them rich and then they are just flailing about for compliments and approval.

Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

They kill you once and then a second time. Sadists.
Watching Bovino lie through his teeth at a press conference to smear innocent victims of state violence is something I should be used to, but still makes the blood boil.

Look at this: @inquirer.com has digitally preserved the interpretative signage removed by NPS, and used annotations to explain what specifically was flagged before removal. This keeps the content publicly accessible (for now) while doing newsworthy reporting

Vandalism
Signs about the history of slavery in the U.S. and the 9 people George Washington enslaved are being removed right now at the President’s House Site in Philadelphia, across from Independence Hall, months after the Trump administration threatend to do so.

How far we have not come in 250 years.

I know I don't have a ton of media followers, but I'll put this out there anyway: if you need someone to comment/offer context on the removal of the slavery exhibit at the President's House site in Philly, get in touch. I just finished an entire book on Americans' fight over Washington and slavery.

Though the complicity and moral vacuity on display here is jaw-dropping, perhaps it's a small compliment to the architecture profession that the two biggest names to offer proposals are both zombie firms, with no named partner around to object.

This Post article on the Cohen Federal Building is great in making the case for the importance of these works by Guston, Shahn, and more. At the core of the threat is an impoverished vision of the world that prioritizes short-term financial gain over collective cultural benefit. wapo.st/4a5NCsq
