Discworld QOTD, from Feet of Clay

“Every real copper knew you didn’t go around looking for Clues so that you could find out Who Done It. No, you started out with a pretty good idea of Who Done It. That way, you knew what Clues to look for.”
Discworld QOTD, from The Light Fantastic

“Not for the first time she reflected that there were many drawbacks to being a swordswoman, not least of which was that men didn't take you seriously until you'd actually killed them, by which time it didn't really matter anyway.”
Discworld QOTD, from Small Gods

“It's hard to explain," said Brutha. "But I think it's got something to do with how people should behave... you should do things because they're right. Not because gods say so. They might say something different another time.”

"I was told you're a monster," the hero said.

"So they say," said the monster.

"But you're beautiful!"

"Thank you."

"Have you always been a monster?"

"Heh. I was a young maiden. But I did something forbidden."

"And became a monster?"

"Got named a monster."

"What did you do?"

"I hit back."

This is beyond callous. What a sad story the Washington Post has turned out to be after such greatness
INBOX: Washington Post Ukraine Correspondent Lizzie Johnson announces that she has been laid off in the middle of a below-freezing war zone without power, heat, or running water.

I’m incredibly interested if the agent who was saved shows even a small amount of introspection. I wonder if he is able to interpret his conscience at all
Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

The women say they guided agents through the emergency, later raising concerns about medical protocols, weapons safety and accountability.

Charles Schulz was an absolute legend
"We have enough trouble here in the South without you showing the kids together in school."

"Well, Larry, let's put it this way: Either you print it just the way I draw it or I quit. How's that?"

Last week of my holiday means jamming in all the chores I needed to do, catch up with all the friends I needed to catch up with and go to the exhibitions I’ve been promising myself. Every. Year.

I don't think free speech on campus ought to mean that a young coddled bigot gets to use their ignorance to casually destroy the career of a knowledgeable trans person on a random Wednesday
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.
