#GameOfWool

Woke in the middle of the night suddenly imagining what my mother (WI craft judge), grandma and great aunts (taught me to knit) would have thought if they'd seen this shambles

I don't think they'd have believed any of the sorry mess on display

They'd have felt sorry for the dogs

#gameofwool report for those who can't bear to watch

Wish I'd had a drink for every "iconic", I'd have been comatose after 20m.

Only ones to emerge with dignity intact: Holger, and the two dogs modelling outfits in round 1. All 3 treating it with the utter disdain it deserves

Shite rating: 💩💩💩

Now that is a production I'd go a long way to see

Especially the bit in the third act where Gurnemanz and Amfortas try to wallpaper the sanctuary with hilarious results
My favourite was when writing brochure copy for the Royal Opera and autocorrect helpfully changed Wagner’s Parsifal to Wagner’s Pratfall.

Got a new tablet and software etc so I don't have to grapple with 1kg of score for the piece we're rehearsing at choir. Can't hold it up properly without aching arms and creaking spine the next day

Can't decide if being tech savvy enough to do this trumps the physical decrepitude or vice versa!

Borrowed the neighbours' dog again today

Reginald was a good boy on his first ever trip to B&Q, and he got a proper fuss made of him by the nice lady in the till before his walk back home with Mr S

He seemed to enjoy himself too

Whole page of exercises one English class at primary school designed to deter us from ever using "got", "nice", or "said", so I'll go for those as winners in the written category plus "settee" for the spoken word prize

The mighty @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social posted this yesterday

I've shared it with Mr S and 3 of my closest friends

Despite having, between us, 250+ years singing in various church/ cathedral/ other choirs, none of us has EVER heard it, or of it, before. Unbelievable

Utter masterpiece

Thanks Tom

"oh, I could never get rid of a book/ I've got X books in my house"... Arseholes. It's a lump of inky paper, not your personality. You've only got time to read another Y (<X) before you die. Pass them on. Share the benefit of what's inside

Watched this excellent piece with Mr S, both of us hoping the payoff would be that the entrants include @bbcstever.bsky.social at the piano.

Colour us disappointed

Just missed a call from the "Immigration Department" offering me a choice of English or Chinese for their important message for me

Bugger. All that family tree research up the Swannee. 300 years of dull English relatives and I've missed the ONE THING that's clearly about to get me deported ☹️

Excitement as the national BBC weather forecast just now featured a picture from just down the road from here

not anticipating a huge rise in tourism on the strength of it

Excellent work by Hadi the artist!

I missed this on the radio but it doesn't matter because it lives permanently in my head

This was my dad's favourite album and on repeat, pretty much, in his final days

I'm now reading #SusanTomes 's *excellent* book, Out Of Silence. Very very much recommended

Everyone on best behaviour... Only 3 or 4 people had to be shown how to get the thing to stop

Impressive, given the demographic for this stuff
I'm at a chamber music concert!

Opened another box from the childhood home

a) why does one person need so many rulers, even if that person is a road engineer; b) why does that person's daughter (me) decide to save *all* of them?

One has dad's pre-war school stamp on it. There's another box with at least 20 more somewhere 🙄

This book is great

If you don't already have one... Get one
These books are free to anyone who wants them. They come from my late ex-publisher. If you want one, let me know in the replies (there are 200 in total).

If you can afford the postage, brilliant. If not, no problem. I'll still sign & post one to you tomorrow.

P.S. Stephen Fry called it "hilarious"

I was in the UoExeter Chapel Choir in the early 80s and our most prestigious gig back then was being invited to sing carols in the home of Exeter's premier drug dealer when we, and he, left the pub after closing time
