This seems outrageously cruel.

And just a handful of months before these folks would have been set to enjoy the release of one of the biggest games of their careers too.

The imbalance of power in the games industry remains utterly fucked.
BREAKING: Yesterday Grand Theft Auto VI maker Rockstar Games fired dozens of people, all of whom were involved in union efforts. A British union calls it "blatant and ruthless" union-busting. Take-Two Interactive says it was due to misconduct.

Sorta wondering what forms of exercise other people are perverts for. Any curlers in the chat?

Fun new trend of people sending me cold emails with AI generated text or art pretending to represent "book clubs" or "a consortium of reviewers" who will "promote my novel" for "a small tip or convenience fee"

Haven’t seen a proper #JOOP in a bit, but here are some enjoyable JOOP-Adjacent tire covers from the past month

“Jeepsy Soul” is possibly the worst(best?) I’ve ever seen, thank you @bettermyths.bsky.social for the photo

Patriot, on Amazon Prime. Criminally ignored because it's called "Patriot" and it was on Amazon Prime before they had anything good.

People love to say that violence "accomplishes nothing", or that it "has no place in society," but if that's actually true, why do we do so much of it?

New blog post: bettermyths.com/violence-is-...
Violence is an Answer
I thought about writing something when Luigi Mangione shot that healthcare CEO, but by the time I figured out what I wanted to write, the media had moved on. So thoughtful, then, for another lone shoo...

My wife told me Charlie Kirk died and my first reaction was "that can't be, I literally just read a bad tweet by that guy."

Taking the opportunity to say that Two Truths and a Lie is still published, it's still gross as hell, and I still love talking about it. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/741701...

100% agree. The blind panic I felt as my book's opening weeks came to a close. I felt like I hadn't done enough, and now I'd never have a chance. Even though it's gonna be out for like a million more years.
Worst thing to happen to book crit was getting mercilessly synced to pub dates. writer gets 97% of the coverage they're ever getting by the end of week 2, & if the book is widely reviewed (positive or not) in prestige places some of your would-be audience burns out on takes & skips the book itself.

For real, if you've ever been considering reviewing / interviewing / etc. someone but stopped yourself because the book was released months ago... do it! We love getting coverage after pub day.

Despite my never accumulating enough swag to actually post on tumblr, that website is easily responsible for the majority of Zeus's sales. God bless that writhing pit of sex perverts
Just finished ‘Zeus Grants Stupid Wishes’ by @bettermyths.bsky.social, which I was convinced to check out by this Tumblr post describing it as “what would happen if Deadpool wrote a mythology book”, and I’d say that’s both an accurate description and high praise. Good irreverent fun. Check it out.

Several years ago at GDC I had friend ask, in good faith "what about using generative AI to fill in the gaps in a team's budget?" My answer was, and remains, that any problem "solved" by genAI is better solved by reducing scope.

This is fascinating not only because of the content, but because of the way people are being encouraged to alter their own human writing in response. Never has adherence to the Elements of Style had such stakes.
This is really fascinating
