First time on Bluesky since Election Day - I was on a full media blackout for a month or so, and am still limiting news access due to wanting to save my mental health! I apologize to all the people who responded to my posts for disappearing; thanks for the likes and follows.

This morning I realized that if Harris wins, there is absolutely going to be a legacy Supreme Court pundit who writes a take that’s like, John Roberts Kept Trump on the Ballot Because He Had Faith That the American People Would Reject Him, and I’m gonna lose my shit

It’s a very big and very weird tent, but I’ll take it: LeBron James, Bad Bunny, The Economist, The Financial Times, The New York Times, Liz and Dick Cheney and Angela Davis endorse Kamala Harris.
Joining the Financial Times, The Economist says: “A second Trump term comes with unacceptable risks.
If The Economist had a vote, we would cast it for Kamala Harris.”
The Economist, famed for their is independent journalism, are endorsing Kamala Harris.
“Half of Donald Trump’s former cabinet members refuse to endorse him. The most senior Republican senator calls him ‘despicable’. His former chief-of-staff and former head of the joint chiefs call him a fascist.”

Put another way, the Trumpers calling for violence and genocide shouldn’t fear they’ll be in danger in the street. They should fear they’ll never be safe in an airport or an elevator or a dry cleaners or a Starbucks ever again.

Everyone gets the difference between (1) political opponents comparing a politician to Hitler, and (2) top national security officials who were appointed by and worked closely with a president comparing him to Hitler.

But some who want it and can't defend it on the merits try pretending otherwise.

The haters said there was no way I could get through this election with my sanity intact. And they were absolutely right, honestly great call by the haters.

This post rhymes with Letter From Birmingham Jail yes indeed
If I may be frank: too many leftists are looking for absolution of the sin of being American, rather than the power to effect concrete changes. If it's absolution you want, get religion. There's work to be done otherwise.

I say this all the time: the only useful framework to analyze white people’s self-perception of racism:
1) Racists are Bad People
2) I am a Good Person
3) Good People cannot be Bad People, therefore:
4) I cannot be a Racist, QED
i wonder if george packer realizes he contradicted himself. “racism does not explain trump support, white communities getting nonwhite immigrants and feeling resentful does.”

It’s so funny and noticeable how only left leaning spaces get called “echo chambers.” Only left wing people get told we need to learn to see other people’s perspectives and understand their motivations. Do conservatives want to be understood, or do they want to dominate conversations?

Donald John Trump, Sr.'s policies and Supreme Court Justices actively dismantled the food safety inspection apparatus and now we deal with goddam food recalls literally every week and some people out here want to RE-ELECT that man? I mean come the fuck on.

By the way, I hope all the people who were yelling “THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO STOP AND PUNISH FALSE SPEECH, IT’S SIMPLE” will read this, but realistically, they won’t.
"To keep it simple for the State of Florida: it’s the First Amendment, stupid."

-Actual quote from a federal judge who is very very sick of Florida's shit.

Angela Davis and Dick Cheney are voting for the same person.
Angela Davis endorsed Kamala Harris, commenting that fascism must be defeated and Harris is not the fascist on the ballot. Electing Harris "opens up space" for more radical actors. Note that Davis also endorsed Biden in 2020. Because Davis is antifascist.
Speaking to People’s World amidst the festival events, Davis said, “The French people and the people of the U.S., just like many around the world, are engaged in a fight—a fight against racism, anti-immigrant hate, and patriarchy—really a fight against fascism.

If you're feeling anxious about the election, it's because the stakes are very high, and the historical inflection point is getting closer.
It's not because the odds have worsened. If you feel like they have, the main factor is your social media feed, not anything concrete.
I strongly second this👇
Repeating this like a mantra. I feel more anxious because the election is getting closer and it would be catastrophic if Trump won, not because his odds of winning are increasing.
Folks, it’s just over three weeks until Election Day. The anxiety you’re feeling about the election today, however bad, is probably the best it’s gonna get for these next 23 days. Take a breath, realize what it is, don’t let it control you.
