If you have students looking to pursue a PhD in health policy, Pitt HPM is accepting applications! No bias, but we have a great department with faculty studying wide-ranging subjects— opioids, public & private insurance, reproductive health, administrative burden, and more! Plus Pittsburgh is great.
Pitt’s PhD in Health Services Research & Policy is recruiting for Fall 2026 — Dr. Travis Donahoe has funding for a graduate research assistantship to work with him to examine how policy and local economic conditions shape the opioid epidemic.

Hi #EconSky! I was on the market this past cycle, specifically focused on the DC-Maryland-Virginia area because my fiancé is at the Fed Board (we get married this May).

I had a few government offers, all of which ended up being affected by the current civil service cuts.

It’s amazing how authors seem to immediately jump ship on papers they coauthored when flagged…
#GDRI_rep Update 3: The paper "Improving Hygiene and Sanitation through Parental Skill Training" by Asadul Islam, Umair Khalil and Tabassum Rahman was conditionally accepted at Economic Development and Cultural Change. We requested a replication package. It has now been withdrawn

Replication materials are important
This effort was only possible because these journals require data and code repositories. This allowed us to compare data across papers and identify undisclosed connections between 15 studies (e.g., overlapping samples, overlapping interventions, reused treatment assignment).

While the change in NIH indirect costs seems large, the average rate seems to be close to 26 percent - 9B of 35B distributed by then NIH. So there are definitely some schools who must be close to the 15%. What rate would folks argue is appropriate in social sciences?
