Naive heuristic : avoiding gadgets or services (free or not) that increase inequality by design, through technology or business model or both, would be a good starting point.
I don't know if it's because I'm following @uploadvr.com but between Steam Frame, Samsung Galaxy XR, Vision Pro M5 and last but not least a proper MR/XR/AR game, namely @laserdancegame.bsky.social it feels like a LOT of XR related news recently!
November 13, 2025 at 7:03 PM
FWIW the Valve Steam Frame is also a harsh reminder to startups or small team projects (thinking here about Lynx XR1 vs Meta Quest Pro) that they might have speed, momentum, capability... but if they can't ship, for whatever reason (including external), they don't exist.

So... yeah simulavr.com ?🤷‍♂️

I changed the way I work a couple of months ago to follow this advice, it made a big difference and my productivity went up by miles.

I guess the biggest question following this Steam Frame announcement is... what changes upstream on @kde.org in terms of immersive UX?

Is KDE Plasma becoming a VR graphical shell? Does it have 3D widgets?

Does it impact freedesktop?

🤔

"Many journalists found themselves in awe when trying Half-Life: Alyx on this device and described it as almost as crisp as on a PCVR headset." ... I did that (not crisp, I admit) in 2020 (video in link) twitter-archive.benetou.fr/utopiah/stat... so if that's key then, again, not excited.🙄

Well shit... I've been saying for years that I'd "throw my money" at any hardware Valve would sell but now I have to admit none of that looks appealing :

- no hand tracking
- no color passthrough
- no hardware upgrade
- no WebXR
- no new VR proper content www.uploadvr.com/valve-isnt-c...

...why?🤷‍♂️

Morning idea : crowdsource video diff.

Propose video cuts (timing to remove, add filters with a standard, e.g. ffmpeg, etc) a la @sponsor.ajay.app but for ANY video, not just YouTube streaming?

Triggering content and product placement be gone!

Interesting article but not "1st gen" as shared quite a few times already Google Glass, Vuzix Blade and quite a few more were perfectly functional years ago.

This "Brussels knifes privacy to feed the AI boom" is yet another glaring example of the danger of AI.

It's not about machine enslaving us. It's not about super intelligence.

It's not even about intelligence.

It's just about data. Again.

Marble Madness XR?
Started experimenting with hand-tracking-based interactions for my little voxel editor – BoxelXR. There are many things to tune, but overall it feels good. Though it would require some decent work in sound design to compensate for the lack of haptic feedback.

Self-hosters help request framacolibri.org/t/docker-mig... I don’t actually understand and listed quite a few possibilities so at this point, any idea welcomed!
Docker migration from a server to another, UI & API fine but only download working
I downloaded a video from the new server https://video.benetou.fr/w/rugsEB2sSbqgixNm2QjumH (but forcing IP 91.98.148.229 via local /etc/hosts) and uploaded back behind on same new server, thus behind ...

Every time you trust BigTech, you are giving up on :

- imagination (they direct the narrative)
- startups (no funding)
- agency (you don't build, you wait)

...all that for what? Nothing, absolutely nothing beside cool looking videos and, more importantly, giving THEM power.

Merged reality my ass.
I will not let history forget what Intel made in 2016.

Just had to basically dodge a Tesla while I crossed normally (walking) with perfect visibility (no tree or anything obscuring the crossing) on zebras.

If you somehow promote assisted driving cars as less dangerous... consider putting your own life at risk, not that of others.

Fuck cars.🤬

@edzitron.com cool episode on vibe coding (which I enjoy calling "vile coding") but as a professional prototypist : no, it's ALSO bad for prototyping!

People often think of prototypes as low effort run once piece of code (as Charlie Meyer said) ... but that's the "easy" part of prototyping.
