Update on this: performed the surgery only to find the part was NOT compatible (even though the parts website said it was) so I have to return it. The new part is quite expensive & a new range is only a couple hundred more with BF deals so we're getting a new one delivered today.
Updated shipping has my new replacement cooktop getting here Sunday! That's a good day for me to perform kitchen appliance surgery.

Y'all, as a kid who grew up food-insecure, plz don't do this. There is nothing more demoralizing as a little kid than being reminded of your family's poverty. We looked forward to Halloween bc it was the 1 chance to be like every other kid and get access to treats the food banks never gave out.

Son1 has been working steadily to get more comfortable leaving the house and going places. He asked to have a regular library day recently, so now on Wednesdays we're being library kids. Last night we were there long enough to get the "we're closing in 30 minutes" notification.
