My latest on Sidebars: the Comey prosecution is falling apart on several fronts. It's extremely unlikely the case ever makes it to trial.

🧵This horrific story is being reported all over Latin America, but not the US.

Randall Gamboa, a Costa Rican, was deported from the US in such a critical health condition it required an ambulance flight.

He then died upon his return to Costa Rica after being detained for 8 months by DHS.

It really is disgusting that Trump can insult, berate, single out, threaten, and demean female reporters on a daily basis for asking fair and legitimate questions and you can’t find a single Republican woman in Congress to say it is inappropriate behavior.

President Trump said he plans to sell F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, despite concerns from national security officials that it could help China steal the technology.

When Saudi Arabia gets things it wants, it’s worth remembering Trump’s business conflicts in the country… 🧵

This was one of Trump's very worst moments. And that is saying something.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

From stonewalling at every turn for many months to rushing it into law in a matter of hours isn’t at all suspicious or sinister. Not at all.
Senate Republicans were so eager to dispense with the Epstein measure that they agreed with Schumer to declare it passed by unanimous consent--even though it has not formally been sent over by the House yet. It may land on Trump's desk tonight.

How is this a real headline?

The White House can release the Epstein Files at any time, but won’t.

Now, after fighting to stop a House vote and failing, he says go ahead, presumably figuring he’ll work to stop it another way.

One of the worst uncritical “Trump says” headlines NYT has ever done.

Instead of “blitz,” this might be better described by other military terms—FUBAR or SNAFU. The cost and human toll can be tallied in numbers of disrupted lives, of families torn apart, of wrongfully detained and terrorized people, and of traumatized children. contrarian.substack.com/p/the-chicag...

Not a critique of Tom at all, but how quickly we’ve acculturated ourselves to a world where the president publicly orders an investigation, and his AG salutes in plain sight. The corpse of the post-Watergate era is well and truly rotted through.
Instead of just releasing the Epstein files, Trump ordered the DOJ to investigate Democrats and AG Pam Bondi is complying.

Are they setting up a pretext to block the release by arguing the files are now part of an active investigation? I’m not saying that would work, but he’s desperate to block.
