In December the Trump admin issued stop work orders on 5 offshore wind farms that were all over 40% completed

Courts have now allowed all 5 to continue construction

Enormously interesting to work on this article. John Nicklas defends his PhD, including his contributions to this work and dx.doi.org/10.1175/JCLI... on Friday!
Some nice coverage of our new report on who's blocking action on climate in the Rhode Island legislature.

This is a "blue state" with huge Democratic majorities.

Yet 21 of 22 priority bills of statewide climate and environment organizations in 2025 died in committee.

The Usual Suspects When It Comes Climate Action Obstruction in Rhode Island - ecoRI News
The first sentence of the report grabbed my attention. “After stunning successes in 2021 and 2022, climate action has slowed in Rhode Island.”

Excited to share our new paper (w/ @aakashsane.bsky.social @baylorfk.bsky.social) where we used the CESM-LME and information theory to understand Pacific decadal variability! 🌊

Thanks for the details.

Not my intent.

I'm sorry if I offended by using a list that included you, but it included you with no publications that sort.

I actually don't know. I find your published papers to be interesting and take down sacred cows. I always recommended my students take your classes.

Not sure; in this specific instance you can ask James L. Powell...

This is an underappreciated aspect of peer review. It is a structured way to hash out the details in slow, thoughtful time.

Corollary: The number of climate skeptic peer-reviewed papers is small (skepticalscience.com/peerreviewed...), while climate change science PRPs are growing exponentially.

For me, a highlight of the year was getting to know you a little and work on a paper together. Happy New Year!

And as for the matter of the alleged uncleanliness of our business, ye shall soon be initiated into certain facts hitherto pretty generally
unknown, and which, upon the whole, will triumphantly plant the sperm whale-ship at least among the cleanliest things of this tidy earth. -- Melville

Butchers we are, that is
true. But butchers, also, and butchers of the bloodiest badge have been all Martial Commanders whom the world invariably delights to honor.

Doubtless one leading reason why the world declines honoring us
whalemen, is this: they think that, at best, our vocation amounts to a
butchering sort of business; and that when actively engaged therein, we
are surrounded by all manner of defilements.

NCAR folks, especially folks who are currently here at AGU -- I know it's a really tough day amid a week that was supposed to be about celebrating science. Would be interested in how you're feeling and how this has affected your week and your presentations. I'm on Signal @chelseaeharvey.01

Roger, we didn't always agree, but on this point we do.
