Just days after I warned in TIME about the authoritarian playbook to defund the arts and rewrite history, the White House fired the entire Fine Arts Commission—6 members who review presidential construction projects, including Trump’s new ballroom. This isn’t coincidence. It’s confirmation.
Trump’s Campaign to Defund the Arts—and Rewrite History

So he fires the person who reported lousy employment numbers last month, only to find that (a) the employment numbers are much worse this month and (b) last month's numbers were revised to actually be negative. Seems Shakespeare was right: the truth will out.
Weak summer labor market growth flashes warning signs for the economy
The economy added 22,000 jobs in August, far fewer than expected, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.3 percent.

This will lead to a recession and perhaps a depression...people in these jobs really need to understand what they are doing.
The fact that the most powerful Republican officials in the nation don’t understand Monetary Policy 101 is an important detail that too often goes overlooked.
CNBC: Do you think Jay Powell should stick around?

MIKE JOHNSON: My opinion is that we should reduce interest rates. The American economy is hot.

CNBC: But if it's too hot, you don't want to cut rates.

$30B in new funds to hire 10,000 new ICE agents, $45B to expand detention centers, and no one stopping them from denying due process, trafficking and detaining people indefinitely…

Trump built a domestic army to keep himself in power indefinitely.

With today's Supreme Court rulings, it is now beyond clear that the majority simply don't believe the writers of the Constitution meant what they wrote. So they are, without Congress's (or the States) intervention, changing it to their liking.

I wish we weren't living through this, but here we are.

Yes, there is such a thing as antisemitism specifically and only targeting Jews.

But the vast majority is connected to a web of bigotry that involves other groups. That's doubly true for right wing antisemitism.

There is quite literally no way to address antisemitism without fighting for others.

This is horrific to see.

And any news organization that resorts to any sort of euphemism to describe this is absolutely failing everyone.

This is about as fucked up as it gets. Good grief.
This is what Facebook/Meta said at the time: "We are appalled by the violence at the Capitol today. We are treating these events as an emergency."

Someone should ask Zuckerberg if he's now ok with the Capitol insurrection and Trump's role in it, including using Meta platforms.
Meta to pay Trump $25 million settlement for shutting his accounts after Jan. 6

President Jimmy Carter, our 39th President who lived to be 100, was one of our finest examples of humility and humanity. He demonstrated perfectly how a former President should conduct himself.

I am saddened by news of his passing, but feel privileged to have seen him.

RIP, President Carter. 🙏💔

(1/3) Jimmy Carter was a good man and a good president—a leader with decency, a kind heart, and a genuine desire to do what was right. Even in his final years, he showed us what it means to serve others and live with purpose.
