There are few things in life that I hate more than listening to my own voice, but I was lucky to share this keynote session with MIT’s Michael Cusumano, so this reposting is for him. Please stop listening at minute 47!

The most fulfilling part of receiving the Harlan D Mills award at #icse2025 yesterday was the opportunity to acknowledge my collaborators over many years. And the most enjoyable part was celebrating with lovely colleagues.

Requirements engineering is where LLMs need to play?
The bottleneck in software engineering is not writing code. It’s reading it. LLMs just make it more obvious.

I’m attending an NSF workshop in Virginia on ‘designing accountable software systems’. I’m surrounded by bright, articulate US professors drawn from many disciplines: engineering, law, business & social sciences. All to whom I have spoken are horrified, nervous, depressed, resigned by what may come.

I appreciate Bluesky for now. Everything's better than the far-right oligarch's platform, there aren't many viable alternatives, Bluesky has gained real traction, and currently it seems to just work well for a wide range of communities.
Still, I'm skeptical about long-term prospects.
