They invent dozens of completely unrelated charges (e.g., corruption and espionage in İmamoğlu's case), so if he got released or acquitted, they would immediately re-arrest him for something else. They've been doing the same with Kurdish politicians and democracy activists for almost a decade now.

Yet another thing that will completely destroy the actual existing model of 🇺🇸 higher education. The lack of loud, urgent collective action by university leaders to educate the public & generate pushback on all of these awful policies continues to be glaring.
A lot of people are also missing the students here on F-1 visas that traditionally go the path of: F-1 to H-1B to permanent residency.
